Wood Transmission and Distribution is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join the Commercial area of our growing business! As a leading provider of engineering and construction services to the UK transmission and distribution sector, we are at the forefront of net zero 2050 with a secured workstream for years to come. The Quantity Surveyor role provides flexibility as a hybrid role, working between home, and ideally our Glasgow office, with occasional visits to site.
This role is perfect for an established and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor from a civils/ infrastructure or construction background, although not essential, with a wide range of projects under their belt who is looking for a new high profile challenge. The successful candidate will be experienced in cost & change control, contract & subcontract administration, and project reporting; and will be assigned to a contract with SSE who are a client. There will be opportunity for future progression and to work on further Scotland based transmission and distribution projects thereafter. Sound commercial judgement, flexibility, the ability to collaborate with others via MS Teams and travel to sites across Scotland is key.
You will provide commercial support concerning financial and contractual matters arising through the management of our client project. This role involves post award contract administration, provision of commercial/ contract deliverables, implementation of project plans; undertaking costs analysis, preparation of cashflow forecasts, developing subcontracting commercial strategy as required; contributing to internal project reviews and developing project forecasts. You will enjoy the challenges of the project just starting construction, monitoring execution to tight deadlines, identifying Wood entitlement and managing performance within budgets.

Resposibilities:

Cost Estimation and Budgeting:

Develop accurate cost estimates for projects based on project specifications, drawings, and relevant information.

Work closely with project managers and stakeholders to establish project budgets and ensure adherence to financial plans.
Quantity Surveying:

Manage project defined costs for all aspects of the project; including but not limited to labour, materials, subcontractors etc.

Analyse and evaluate variations to the contract and provide recommendations for resolution.
Contract Administration:

Administer contracts and ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions.

Review and assess contract documents, identifying potential risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
Cost Control:

Monitor and control project costs throughout the lifecycle of the project.

Implement effective cost control measures and report on any cost overruns or savings.
Collaboration:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, and procurement, to ensure seamless project delivery.

Engage with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to address queries and resolve issues relating to overall defined cost of the project.
Reporting:

Prepare and present regular reports on project costs, budget status, and financial forecasts.

Provide insights and recommendations to senior management for decision-making.
Risk Management:

Identify potential risks related to cost and contract management and develop strategies for risk mitigation.

Proactively address issues that may impact project costs and timelines.
Compliance:

Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and company policies.

Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in quantity surveying.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field

Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within projects

Strong knowledge of quantity surveying principles, cost estimating, and contract administration

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Analytical mindset with attention to detail

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
