What does a Kit Manager do at WPP Production?
We are seeking a highly organised and technically proficient Kit Manager to join WPP Production at Devons Point.
This is a hybrid technical operations role that combines responsibility for the day-to-day management, maintenance and scheduling of production equipment with hands-on support for live and pre-recorded streaming activity from the studio. You will take ownership of the studio's equipment inventory and asset tracking systems, ensuring all kit is accurately logged, maintained, tested and ready for use across a busy production environment.
Working closely with the Technical Production Manager, production teams, photographers, directors and studio staff, you will help create a robust and reliable asset management operation using RFID and asset tracking systems. You will be responsible for equipment readiness, storage, maintenance, repair coordination, firmware updates, consumable stock management and the preparation of kit packages for shoots.
Alongside this, the role will also support the development and operation of streaming capability at Devons Point. You will act as a key technical point of contact for live and pre-recorded events, advising on technical feasibility, configuring streaming systems, monitoring stream health and supporting successful event delivery in collaboration with internal teams and specialist external partners where needed.
This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with a process-driven mindset, enjoys building order and reliability into studio operations, and is comfortable moving between equipment management, production support and live streaming environments.

- Enforce standardised check-in and check-out procedures across production teams, ensuring all equipment movements are logged accurately.
- Conduct regular inventory audits to verify equipment location, status and availability.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies, including missing, unreturned or misplaced equipment.
Technical Maintenance & Equipment Readiness
- Maintain a regular servicing and maintenance schedule for all production equipment.
- Perform cleaning, testing and quality control checks on all returned assets.
- Manage the repair lifecycle for faulty equipment, including coordination with external suppliers and tracking return-to-service.
- Oversee firmware update cycles across hardware, including post-update testing to ensure stability and reliability.
- Implement and manage battery health monitoring, including charge cycle logging, performance testing and stock rotation.
Production & Shoot Support
- Work from production briefs and kit lists to prepare, test and assemble equipment packages for shoots.
- Build and maintain pre-configured kits for standard and recurring shoot types to support efficiency.
- Support production teams with last-minute kit requests and provide practical technical assistance where required.
- Act as a reliable technical point of contact for in-house photographers, directors and production teams regarding equipment availability, setup and technical suitability.
Procurement & Lifecycle Management
- Conduct technical research into equipment developments and make informed recommendations for new purchases aligned to studio needs.
- Manage stock levels and purchasing for studio consumables, including media cards, batteries, tape and related items.
- Support responsible disposal, recycling and replacement of outdated equipment and consumables in line with sustainability objectives.
Studio Operations
- Oversee the physical organisation of equipment storage areas, ensuring all items are clearly labelled, stored correctly and easily accessible.
- Maintain strong equipment handling standards across the studio.
- Train internal staff on correct handling, logging and check-out procedures.
- Serve as a key technical support contact for production teams requiring troubleshooting or equipment guidance.
Streaming & Broadcast Operations
- Support live and pre-recorded streaming activity from the studio, acting as a technical lead on setup and operation.
- Work with event organisers and clients to ensure streaming requirements are clearly defined, feasible and technically achievable.
- Configure and operate software and hardware encoders such as OBS Studio, vMix and Tricaster.
- Recommend and manage encoding settings appropriate to platform, bandwidth and client requirements.
- Implement and troubleshoot streaming protocols including RTMP/RTMPS and SRT.
- Work with colleagues from Metro Broadcast Group on larger streaming productions.
- Collaborate with post-production teams to support the creation and integration of broadcast graphics and VT packages.
Network, Platform & Live Delivery
- Work with network engineering teams to ensure bandwidth availability and connectivity are tested in advance of events.
- Monitor stream health and troubleshoot issues in real time, including latency, jitter and packet loss.
- Configure stream destinations across relevant CDN and platform environments based on client needs.
- Provide technical support for the integration of graphics, VTs and hybrid contributors into live productions.
