Role: HR Business Partner (South)

Location: Your main base will be GAR, Wallace Way, Hitchin, SG4 0SE, with regular travel to company sites across the Southern Region.

Hours: Full-time, permanent – open to conversations around working hours

Reporting to: HR Manager

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and commercially focused HR Business Partner to join our growing HR team and support our Southern Region.

This is a hybrid role, with approximately 40% of your working time based from home and 60% spent supporting our operational sites across the Southern Region. Your main base will be our Hitchin site, and regular travel to other company locations will be essential.

You will act as a trusted advisor to operational and site managers, providing expert HR guidance across the full employee lifecycle. Working closely with leaders, you will help drive high-performing teams, support business growth and promote best practice in people management.

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity for someone with strong employee relations experience, excellent knowledge of UK employment law and the confidence to influence and coach managers across multiple sites. You will play a key role in organisational development, employee engagement and continuous business improvement within a fast-paced operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Partner with regional and site managers to provide commercially focused HR advice and support.
Build strong working relationships with operational leaders, coaching and developing management capability.
Manage complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, absence management and performance matters.
Support investigations, hearings and appeals, ensuring fair, consistent and legally compliant outcomes.
Provide expert advice on employment legislation, company policies and HR best practice.
Lead recruitment activity across the Southern Region, supporting workforce planning and resourcing requirements.
Develop and implement practical strategies to improve attraction and retention of operational employees.
Support organisational change, restructures and business growth initiatives.
Identify trends in employee turnover, absence and engagement, recommending practical improvement initiatives.
Support employee engagement activity that enhances culture, wellbeing and retention.
Assist with the integration of acquired businesses, helping to ensure a consistent employee experience and alignment of HR processes.
Maintain accurate HR records and management information.

Skills and Experience Required

Proven HR generalist experience within a multi-site operational environment.
Significant experience managing complex employee relations cases from start to finish.
Experience building effective working relationships with managers at all levels.
Experience supporting recruitment and workforce planning.
Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
The ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities across several sites.
Excellent communication skills and a practical, solution-focused approach.

Qualifications and Additional Requirements

CIPD Level 5 qualification or above is desirable.
A full UK driving licence is essential due to regular travel between sites.
Experience within manufacturing, recycling, waste management, logistics, engineering or another operational industry is desirable.
