Do you want to make a real difference to young people's lives then this is a fantastic opportunity for you to 'Step into Youth Work'.

The Targeted Youth Support team part of Lancashire County Council's, Children and Family Wellbeing Service are looking to recruit 1 full time 37-hour, permanent, Youth Support Worker for the Preston & South Ribble District, who are enthusiastic, organised and passionate about making a difference and changing young people’s lives.

The service is a key contributor to the prevention and early intervention/early help agenda for Lancashire County Council. It enables young people to succeed by providing high quality informal education opportunities to promote their personal and social development. It supports young people who are challenged in education, their communities or home life to ensure a successful transition to adulthood.

The TYS team are the biggest employers in the UK of JNC qualified youth workers and we are immensely proud of this, we follow the Pink Book terms and conditions, with more leave due to the unsocial hours we can work. You will also as part of JNC be on a Teachers Pension if you so desire.

Youth work focuses on personal and social development – the skills and attributes of young people – rather than to ‘fix a problem’. It is an educational process that engages with young people in a curriculum that deepens a young person’s understanding of themselves, their community and the world in which they live and supports them to proactively bring about positive changes.

The Youth Support Worker's role is to contribute to the delivery of youth work opportunities, in Lancashire the Targeted Youth Support Team deliver core youth work, these are Detached/outreach, Special Educational Needs & Disability session, Youth Voice including a Local Area Youth Council, Safe Spaces offering a targeted youth places and spaces, LGBTQ+ and/or specific issued based groups.

Youth Support Workers will report to a Professional Range Youth Worker and will work closely with other youth work staff and volunteers to maximise opportunities for young people to access social and personal development as well as learning opportunities.

The main purpose of the role is to initiate and develop relationships with 11 to 19 year olds and up to 25 year olds for young people with vulnerabilities. Working directly with targeted young people to enable them to broaden their horizons and involvement in positive activities. By designing and developing youth work responses underpinned by the 4 cornerstones of youth work, equality, participation, education and empowerment and delivery of the Youth Offer.

You will deliver face to face work in accordance with JNC terms and conditions including, trips, activity days and residentials. You will be required to travel across the districts and at times across county so access to a vehicle is essential.
