Full job description

We are looking for a driven, commercially sharp Business Development Manager / Sales Executive to join Westbound and take ownership of winning new business across our freight forwarding services.

This is a pure hunter role, focused on generating new opportunities, converting leads, and building a strong, profitable customer base.

You’ll be out in the market, opening doors, building relationships, and closing deals across sea freight (FCL/LCL), air freight, and European road freight.

Key Responsibilities

New Business Development
Identify, target, and win new customers across key verticals (retail, furniture, ecom, manufacturing)
Build and manage a strong pipeline of opportunities
Use tools (Apollo, LinkedIn, CRM) to generate leads and outreach
Client Engagement
Book and attend face-to-face meetings with prospective clients
Understand customer supply chains and pain points
Present tailored freight solutions and value propositions
Closing Deals
Convert quotes into live business
Negotiate rates, margins, and commercial terms
Secure long-term relationships and repeat business
Collaboration
Work closely with internal pricing and operations teams
Ensure smooth onboarding of new accounts
Maintain high service levels from day one
Market Awareness
Stay up to date with freight market trends (rates, BAF, disruptions)
Use insight to position Westbound competitively

Targets & Performance

Monthly GP (Gross Profit) targets
New business wins and account activation
Pipeline value and conversion rates
Activity metrics (calls, meetings, quotes sent)

This is a target-driven role with clear expectations and strong earning potential.

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience in freight forwarding sales or logistics
Strong track record of winning new business
Confident communicator, both face-to-face and over the phone
Commercially aware with a focus on margin, not just volume
Self-motivated, competitive, and resilient

You’re someone who:

Doesn’t wait for leads, you go and create them
Enjoys the chase as much as the close
Can handle rejection and keep moving forward
Wants to build something, not just maintain it

Probation: 6 months, with ongoing review at 3 months.

Additional Benefits

20 days paid holiday per year

Following completion of the first full year of employment, an additional one day per year is gained, capped at 25 days (excluding bank holidays).

Pay: £30,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
