Accounts Assistant

Location: Drayton House, Drayton Lane, Chichester
Hours: Full-time, office-based
Salary: £25,000

About the role

James Todd & Co is seeking an Accounts Assistant to join our busy Chichester accounts team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within accountancy practice. Working with a varied portfolio of clients, you will support qualified Accountants across accounts preparation, tax, and wider practice work as part of your ongoing development.

You will be involved in hands-on client work from an early stage, with the opportunity to build your technical knowledge and progress over time.

Key responsibilities

Process client data using cloud software including Xero, Dext, Sage and QuickBooks
Develop bookkeeping skills to support progression into year-end accounts preparation and tax work using the CCH software suite
Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts for Limited Companies, LLPs, Sole Traders and Partnerships
Prepare accounts packs and supporting documentation for client submission
Work on file review points and make necessary amendments
Assist with the preparation and filing of corporation tax and personal tax returns under supervision
Assist with ad hoc duties throughout the year, including P11D submissions
Work within agreed client budgets and deadlines
Ensure compliance with internal procedures, policies and relevant legislation
Support Accountants and the wider team as required

What we’re looking for

Some previous exposure in an accountancy or bookkeeping environment (practice experience beneficial)
A positive and proactive attitude
An interest in developing a career in accounts and tax
Strong attention to detail and organisation
Good time management and ability to work to deadlines
Confident communication skills and a team-focused approach
