Job Title: Residential Child Care Worker

Reporting To: Registered Manager

Job Purpose:

As a Residential Child Care Worker, you will be a vital member of our team, providing care and support services for young people with challenging behaviours and complex needs. You will play an active role in helping them maximise their potential, develop essential life skills, and experience stability in a safe, nurturing environment.

You may also be required to take charge of the service in the absence of Senior Staff and Managers.

Skills & Abilities:

Required:

Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Understanding of emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties in children and young people.
Commitment to providing a person-centred service that respects the needs and wishes of each young person.
Effective communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to engage effectively with young people, colleagues, families, and external professionals.
Dedication to training and professional development.

Main Responsibilities:

Care Responsibilities:

Support the implementation of organisational policies and care philosophies.
Ensure each young person's needs are met through effective assessment and care planning.
Assist young people in developing essential life skills, participating in education, and engaging in recreational activities.
Function as a Key Worker, advocating for and ensuring the well-being of specific young people.
Promote choice, independence, and involvement in decision-making.
Apply and contribute to strategies for managing challenging behaviours.
Encourage and support young people in maintaining personal hygiene and a clean-living environment.
Maintain accurate records and ensure clear communication among staff.
Administer medication (once trained) in line with policies and procedures.
Ensure that young people's personal belongings are well-maintained and accounted for.
Promote good practice and safeguarding principles within the care team.

Communication Responsibilities:

Participate in staff meetings and young people’s reviews as required.
Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with data protection policies.

Training & Development:

Keep up to date with professional knowledge and training.
Attend all mandatory training sessions.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Report any illnesses, accidents, or concerns to Senior Staff or Management.
Ensure adherence to Health & Safety, Emergency, and Fire Procedures.
Conduct and follow risk assessments.
Report any faulty equipment or potential hazards.

General Responsibilities:

Assist in maintaining financial records in line with company policies.
Support service reviews and quality improvement initiatives.
Complete administrative duties as required.
Welcome visitors and provide assistance when necessary.
Maintain the good reputation of the organisation.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Ensure the security of the residential home is maintained.
Maintain a clean and well-organised working environment.
Perform any other duties assigned by management.
