Full job description

Location: South Wales.
Hours: 4 days per week – 3 days care-home based + 1 day working from home
Pay: £13 per hour
Driving: Essential – business mileage/fuel expenses covered

We are looking for a reliable, organised and friendly Optical Assistant/Admin Assistant to join our growing domiciliary eye-care service.

This is a varied role involving 3 days working directly in care homes supporting our optician during clinics, with 1 day working from home to complete administrative and business development tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Care Home / Clinic Work – 3 Days Per Week

Assist the optician during domiciliary eye-care clinics.
Help organise patients and ensure clinics run smoothly.
Dispense and fit spectacles to patients.
Help patients choose suitable frames.
Contact next of kin/family members to discuss spectacle options and orders.
Assist with spectacle measurements, collections and deliveries.
Provide friendly and professional aftercare to patients.
Complete relevant NHS paperwork and documentation.
Maintain accurate patient and care-home records.
Communicate professionally with care-home staff and family members.

Home-Based Administration & Business Development – 1 Day Per Week

Finalise any outstanding paperwork and administration from clinics.
Process and follow up spectacle orders.
Make calls to patients and next of kin where required.
Maintain patient and care-home records.
Contact existing and potential care homes to develop new relationships.
Identify and approach new care homes that may benefit from our service.
Liaise with GP practices, local opticians and other healthcare professionals to introduce and promote our service.
Follow up potential opportunities.
Assist with general administrative tasks to support the running and growth of the business.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

Friendly, approachable and confident speaking to patients, families and healthcare professionals.
Highly organised with good attention to detail.
Comfortable making telephone calls and communicating with new organisations.
Professional and confident when representing the company.
Able to work independently and manage their own workload.
Comfortable using computers and completing administrative work.
Ideally experienced in optics, healthcare, care homes or a similar environment.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential, as the role involves travelling to care homes across Cardiff and surrounding areas. Fuel/business mileage will be covered.
