Purpose of the post:

To provide support to young adults living in their own home.

Accountable To:

Registered Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Duties and Responsibilities- Specific

Support workers will work as a member of a staff team accountable to the Registered Manager.

They will undertake a range of duties to support the provision of care with a person-centred approach.

Apply positive behaviour support principles and effectively manage any behaviours that challenge.

They will work holistically, developing excellent links and close working relationships with other professionals involved with the service user and their family.

They will be required to work within the policies and procedures of the home. The Support Worker will be expected to be actively involved in the development of the service.

They will be supervised by a manager of the home.

Within a prescribed working week, they will follow a flexible working pattern in accordance with management and service requirements; this will include sleeping-in duties at the home or elsewhere if necessary.

The staff member will be expected to work some weekends and Bank Holidays.

A high level of flexibility will be necessary to provide a comprehensive and responsive service that is sensitive to the individual needs the service user and their families. This will require the Team to provide a wide range of experiences on an individual or group basis, including occupational, social, cultural, and recreational activities, therapeutic support from specialist services ,use of Advocates and be- friending services as when required .

The ethos of the service is person centred and based upon a commitment to achieve the best outcomes for the service user.

Staff will be expected to have high aspiration for the service user and seek life opportunities to support their development .

They will play a key role in ensuring that their home is a warm and welcoming place where they feel safe, secure and loved.

They will support service users to develop and encourage independence, with a plan to support and encourage life skills.

Staff will develop professional relationships with them and their families or carers. They will work in close collaboration with colleagues/professionals to ensure the very best outcomes.

A support worker will be expected to support all service users with their religious persuasion, racial origin, cultural and linguistic background

Main Duties

The SW will be expected to participate in the provision of the full range of services provided both at the home and in the community; they will be responsible for:

Accepting a personal responsibility for implementing positively the policies of Equal Opportunities and Race Relations and for anti-oppressive care practices.

Contributing to the provision of a planned and stimulating environment which reflects positively the diverse racial and cultural nature of society.

Supporting the physical and emotional wellbeing.

Participating in the assessment of service users and providing services in accordance with an agreed written plan which is reviewed at regular intervals.

Person centred plans will be developed from assessments to ensure each service user receives individual support to meet their needs.

Familiarising themselves with policy and procedural requirements relevant to the performance of their duties.

Maintaining financial, fire precaution, health and safety and other records as are required by the Manager.

Contributing towards the maintenance and fabric of the home, ensuring the environment is fit for purpose. Ensuring that its grounds and equipment are in a safe and satisfactory condition.

Support workers will be expected to take pride in the home and treat it with the respect always being mindful that it’s the service users home.

Staff will be expected to encourage service users to make decisions about the look of the home and encourage them to take active role in looking after their house e.g. choosing furniture, shopping and buying items for their home.

Maintenance of good public relations and ensuring that company complaints procedures are carried out effectively.

Compliance with legislation, policies and procedures in relation to health and safety, equal opportunities, staffing/employment, medication, and other such matters.

Support workers will be responsible for ensuring that adequate planning, coordination and preparation is in place for each shift.

Having a full understanding of CQC requirements and regulated process in place, understanding the importance of this.

To undertake and attain successful completion of Induction.

Accepting a personal responsibility for professional learning and development, including attending training courses as required.

Providing written reports as required.

Duties and Responsibilities – General

To adhere to existing working practices, methods, and procedures. To undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems.

It will be necessary to work with information technology and associated systems in accordance with company policies.

To co-operate with the service in complying with relevant health and safety legislation, policies and procedures in the performance of the duties of the post.

To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in compliance with our equal opportunities policies. To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines

To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within the overall function, commensurate with the pay and level of responsibilities of the post.

Pay: £14.00 per hour
