Full job description

Farmers’ Market Co‑ordinator

£13.45 per hour

Location: Dunbar, with markets predominantly in East Lothian but potential to travel throughout Central Scotland and the Borders
Hours: Mostly weekends. Hours depend on the number of markets each month (minimum 8 hours).

Please note: Applicants must be 21 years of age or over in order to drive the company van for insurance purposes.

The role involves working in a fast‑paced and enjoyable environment, so the successful candidate will need to be comfortable managing a varied and changing workload while maintaining excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Work with the production and management team to assess the varieties and quantities of smoked products required for each market.
Load products at the Smokehouse and transport them safely to the market using the refrigerated van.
Ensure all required equipment and materials are taken to each market, including tables, gazebo, display props, packaging materials, cash box, and card machine.
Set up an attractive, welcoming, and food‑safe market stall showcasing the range of Belhaven Smokehouse products.
Engage with customers, answer questions, share product knowledge, and encourage sales.
Process payments via cash or card.
Follow all food safety procedures and hygiene standards (training will be provided).
At the end of the market, pack down the stall, account for unsold stock, and return products and equipment to the Smokehouse.
Reconcile product inventory after each market.
Communicate customer feedback and suggestions to help improve market performance and increase sales.

Skills and Experience

Ability to represent Belhaven Smokehouse professionally and positively as a sales representative.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Enthusiastic, trustworthy, and reliable with strong personal integrity.
Ability to work safely and responsibly in a busy environment.
Full clean driving licence.
Must be 21 years of age or over in order to drive the company van for insurance purposes.
