We're looking for a Facilities Assistant at Hardcastle Crags to help keep the whole place in good condition and running smoothly for all the people who visit, and providing a presence during our busiest times. This role is all about using your practical skills and attention to detail to look after a place that people love.
Salary: £12.75 per hour
Contract Duration: Permanent
Working Hours: You will work 582 hours per year. This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year.
Working Pattern: The role involves regular weekend working, normally one day per week, with additional shifts required during team holidays and bank holiday periods when necessary. Shifts are approximately 5.5 hours and are typically worked between 11:00am and 5:00pm, including a break. Candidates must be available to work throughout school holidays. During these periods, the expected working pattern is 3 to 4 days per week alongside our other Facilities Assistant. During term time, the role is usually limited to one weekend day per week, except where additional cover is required.

What it's like to work here:You will be working as part of a small Facilities team at Gibson Mill and will be involved in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the site and its facilities for our visitors. Full induction and training will be provided, along with opportunities for development.
Based at Gibson Mill, Hardcastle Crags, you'll be working in one of the South Pennines' most beautiful locations, with more than 400 acres of unspoilt woodland. Home to the Northern Hairy Wood ant, the area features tumbling streams, stunning waterfalls and stacks of millstone grit, all criss-crossed by over 15 miles of footpaths. Gibson Mill is also a unique environmentally sustainable visitor attraction, generating all of its energy on site.
What you'll be doing:As a Facilities Assistant, you'll help with the day-to-day presentation of the National Trust’s buildings and outdoor spaces. You’ll be turning your hand to all sorts of cleaning and minor bits of maintenance, making sure that all our facilities are kept in good working order. You'll also be asked to help with some manual work such as unloading deliveries.
Duties such as cleaning, sweeping and litter-picking - both indoors and outdoors - form a core part of this role. You’ll be aiming for the highest standards of customer service everywhere you look after, and this includes speaking to people as they visit and helping them with any queries. You might also get involved with general maintenance work and helping other teams if they need extra support.
