Job Overview
We are looking for an organised, proactive and detail-orientated Production Controller to take ownership of production planning, manufacturing control and quality documentation. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will coordinate production from order release through to final inspection and completion while providing direct line management for the Goods In, Quality & Stock Controller and working closely with the Production Team Lead to ensure production targets, quality standards and delivery commitments are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Control
- Review and align engineering drawings to ensure product data is accurate and consistent.
- Input and maintain product configurations within internal systems.
- Generate and release production work orders in line with the manufacturing schedule.
- Produce kitting lists to support efficient material preparation.
- Identify material shortages and communicate any shortfalls to the Operations Manager.
- Monitor outstanding kitting shortages and proactively follow up to minimise production delays.
- Monitor production capacity against customer demand and support effective production scheduling.
- Work closely with the Operations team to balance workload, maximise resource utilisation and achieve on-time delivery.
Goods In, Quality & Stock Control
- Oversee the Goods In, Quality & Stock Control function to ensure materials are received, inspected and processed efficiently.
- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance and support to the Goods In & Stock Controller.
- Ensure incoming goods are inspected and verified against purchase orders and quality requirements.
- Monitor stock accuracy and support regular stock counts and inventory reconciliation.
- Work closely with Purchasing and Production to ensure materials are available to meet production schedules.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, non-conforming materials and supplier quality issues.
- Support continuous improvements to inventory control and material handling processes.
Production Support
(Working closely with the Production Team Lead)
- Coordinate and prioritise workload across the production team as required.
- Support the training and development of production personnel.
- Generate production test sheets.
- Assign Production Control Numbers (PCNs).
- Allocate serial numbers to finished products.
- Generate Acceptance Test Reports (ATRs).
- Scan and electronically file completed ATRs.
Quality, Documentation & Compliance
- Review, create and maintain controlled manufacturing documentation.
- Ensure document control processes remain accurate, current and compliant.
- Maintain production records in accordance with company quality procedures.
- Support continuous improvement by reviewing and enhancing production processes.
- Ensure First Article Inspection (FAI) requirements are completed where applicable.
- Ensure final inspection and packaging procedures remain current and effective.
- Update inspection procedures where improvements are identified.
- Deliver or coordinate training on revised procedures.
Internal Audits & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in internal audits to ensure compliance with the Quality Management System.

- Design Control
- Resource Management
- Document & Record Control
- Assist in implementing best practices to improve efficiency, quality and operational performance.
Production Completion
- Update production and maintenance records with batch information.
- Record production test results within company tracking systems.
- Maintain the Production Register.
- Scan and electronically file completed work orders and associated documentation.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience as a Production Controller, Production Planner, Manufacturing Coordinator or in a similar manufacturing role.
- Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong organisational and planning skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production deadlines.
- Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Good understanding of quality management systems and document control processes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across Production, Engineering, Purchasing and Operations.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Desirable
- Previous experience supervising or coordinating a small team.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 or similarly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of First Article Inspection (FAI), Acceptance Test Reports (ATRs) and manufacturing documentation.
