About the role
Balfour Beatty has been selected by Rolls-Royce as its construction partner to support the expansion of its Raynesway site in Derby, and we are looking for a Senior Buyer to join the team.
We're looking for a dynamic individual who can initially support one of our major projects through establishment of and ongoing support of ongoing procurement activity. The position will report into the Procurement Manager and will be accountable for developing supply chain intel reports and facilitate best practice procurement activities including:
- Preparation of robust RFQ's,
- Management and evaluation of returns,
- Sourcing recommendations,
- Ownership of Procurement Schedule updates
- Input into Procurement Strategies.
The role has a requirement to build upon existing supply chain capacity and expertise, develop relationships with new suppliers where appropriate and embed collaborative working with the project teams, as well as the supply chain. The individual will also support Programme Specific initiatives, and facilitate working groups bringing our internal technical teams, central strategic procurement teams, and supply chain together and will require occasional offsite travel.
What you'll be doing
- Support Projects in setting up and governing best practice procurement process.
- Preparation of invitation to tenders and requests for quotations for subcontract, materials and service requirements.
- Carrying out due diligence including performance and reference checks for supply chain selection
- Complete a full evaluation of tender responses and compile award recommendations for approval.
- Support delivery of Programme targets and ensure these are communicated and ultimately met via our supply chain.
- Establish long term relationships with the supply chain focusing on competency, value for money and quality to drive the Right First-Time initiative.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders
- Liaise with the Project teams to assist with resolution of any supply chain challenges or issues and lead in a collaborative manner.
- Support development of Procurement Strategies
- Management of Procurement Schedules
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction or innovative solutions (eg MMC, low carbon etc).
- Ensuring adherence to procurement processes and procedures including utilisation of our central strategic agreements and the Blue Pound where necessary.
- Support the delivery of the Balfour Beatty H&S, Quality and Sustainability targets.
- Support any supply chain events, workshops and initiatives.
- Provide support and training to internal stakeholders on digital tools
Who we're looking for
- We're looking for someone with 3-5 years' experience as a Buyer, or a Senior Buyer seeking a sideways move into a dynamic team where they can broaden their experience and make a real impact.
- Good understanding of how to run end to end procurement projects from market research, through sourcing, to contract and supplier management.
- Some experience in negotiating commercial deals and contractual terms and conditions.
- Commercially and financially aware with well-developed negotiating skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Knowledge of the Construction & Buildings supply chain and/or market.
- Working knowledge and understanding of NEC4 suite of contracts. (desirable).
- Knowledge of procurement ERP and e-tendering systems (e.g. Oracle, 4Projects or similar).
- Knowledge of Subcontract Procurement Process.
- Supply Chain Management Experience.
- Demonstrates negotiation skills.
