Full job description

Are you looking to build on your neurodevelopmental assessment experience within a growing, clinically ambitious private practice? We are looking for a rigorous, compassionate and detail-focused Senior Assistant Psychologist to join our neurodevelopmental assessment service, delivering ADHD and autism assessments for adults, children and young people. This is a permanent, full-time role working remotely and face-to-face across various UK locations.

As a core member of our clinical assessment team, you will be responsible for the rigorous data collection, psychometric administration, clinical interviewing, observation and documentation that forms the evidence base for our multidisciplinary team's (MDT) diagnostic conclusions. This role does not carry diagnostic responsibility, but the quality and completeness of the clinical evidence you gather is central to a well-run assessment service. You will work across both adult and CYP (children and young people) pathways, conducting assessments both remotely and in person.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer the full psychometric battery for each assessment type, including ASRS-5 and Conners-3 for ADHD; AQ-10 and RAADS-R for autism; SDQ and school report review for CYP; and extended combined batteries where indicated.
Score all measures accurately, applying correct normative frameworks, and produce a clear psychometric summary for MDT review.
Conduct structured clinical interviews with adult patients, children, and parents or carers, gathering developmental history, current presentation and symptom profile.
Observe and systematically document clinically relevant behaviour during assessment sessions, maintaining objectivity and presenting observations in a format that supports the MDT's reasoning.
Adapt your interview approach to the individual, using a flexible, patient-centred style appropriate for neurodivergent patients rather than a rigid protocol.
Draft structured assessment write-ups covering developmental history, symptom profile, psychometric results and behavioural observations.
Write clearly and precisely, in language that is accessible to the patient or family, accurate for the MDT, and defensible to any subsequent review.
Maintain accurate Semble (our clinical practice management system) records throughout the assessment pathway, including notes, scores, transcripts and correspondence.
Present assessment findings at MDT reviews, contributing to the clinical team's diagnostic reasoning without holding diagnostic responsibility yourself.
Act as a consistent point of contact for patients and families during the assessment process, knowledgeable, warm, and appropriately boundaried.
Participate in clinical supervision with the Head of Health Integration and the wider consultant team.

Requirements:

Essential:

Masters-level qualification in psychology, clinical psychology, neuropsychology or a closely related discipline (e.g. mental health nursing), conferring or working towards Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS.
Demonstrable knowledge of ADHD and autism assessment, including presentation across the lifespan, the evidence base, and the validated psychometric tools used in clinical practice.
Proven hands-on experience assessing clients face-to-face, such as conducting clinical interviews, psychometric testing, or structured observations, in a psychology, health, or related setting.
Experience of structured clinical interviewing or psychometric assessment in a clinical, research or applied setting.
Ability to produce clear, clinically accurate written documentation to a standard suitable for inclusion in a professional report — precision and detail are non-negotiable.
Confident and sensitive communicator — able to adapt to neurodivergent patients, anxious parents, and clinical colleagues with equal skill.
Clear understanding of the boundaries of this role, particularly around diagnosis, and the professional maturity to hold those boundaries under pressure.

Desired:

Specific experience administering neurodevelopmental tools — ASRS-5, Conners-3, AQ-10, RAADS-R, SDQ, or similar — in a clinical or research setting.
Experience conducting developmental history interviews with adults, children, or parents and carers.
Experience contributing to MDT processes or presenting clinical findings to a multidisciplinary team.
Familiarity with Semble, Tortus AI, or a comparable clinical practice management or transcription system.
Lived experience of ADHD, autism, or neurodivergence — recognised as a genuine clinical asset in this role.
