Due to our continued expansion, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Healthcare Services Manager to oversee the operational, clinical and commercial performance of our pharmacy network.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a Master's Degree in Pharmacy and practical pharmaceutical experience who wishes to develop a career in healthcare management within a multi-site community pharmacy business.
Role Overview
The Healthcare Services Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of multiple pharmacy branches, ensuring the effective delivery of NHS and private healthcare services, maintaining regulatory compliance and driving operational excellence. The successful candidate will work closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dispensers and senior management to improve patient care, service quality and business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operational performance of multiple community pharmacy branches.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve patient care, service quality and business efficiency.
- Support the delivery and expansion of NHS and private pharmacy services, including Pharmacy First, New Medicine Service (NMS), Hypertension Case Finding, Contraception Service, Smoking Cessation, Seasonal Vaccination Programmes and other commissioned healthcare services.
- Monitor branch performance against operational, financial and contractual objectives.
- Analyse operational and service performance data and prepare management reports for senior management.
- Develop workforce plans and coordinate staffing requirements across multiple pharmacy branches.
- Supervise and support pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dispensers and administrative staff.
- Develop, review and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent service delivery across all branches.
- Ensure compliance with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Standards, NHS contractual requirements, Controlled Drugs regulations, Health and Safety legislation, Data Protection legislation and all other applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor clinical governance, quality assurance and risk management processes to maintain patient safety and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate internal audits, compliance reviews and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Manage procurement activities, supplier relationships, stock control and inventory management to ensure medicines availability and minimise wastage.
- Support the implementation of new pharmacy technologies, dispensing systems and digital healthcare services.
- Liaise with NHS England, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), healthcare professionals, suppliers and other external stakeholders.
- Assist in recruitment, induction, performance management, staff development and workforce training.
- Support business expansion projects, new branch openings and the introduction of new healthcare services.
- Prepare operational policies, service evaluations, compliance reports and business performance reports.
- Identify operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, excellent customer service and high-quality patient care.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Master's Degree in Pharmacy (MPharm) or an equivalent internationally recognised pharmacy qualification.
- Demonstrable experience working within a community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy or pharmaceutical environment.
- Strong understanding of community pharmacy operations, pharmaceutical services and NHS healthcare service delivery.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams across multiple pharmacy branches.
- Good knowledge of medicines management, dispensing processes, stock control and pharmacy workflow management.
- Sound understanding of General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) standards, NHS contractual requirements, clinical governance and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with patients, healthcare professionals and external stakeholders.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and pharmacy dispensing/Patient Medication Record (PMR) systems.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to support operational efficiency and business growth.
- High level of professionalism, integrity and attention to detail.
Desirable
- At least one year's experience in a supervisory, healthcare operations or pharmacy management role within a community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy or healthcare setting.
- Previous experience working as a Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Dispenser or similar pharmaceutical support role.
- Experience working within a multi-branch or multi-site pharmacy business.
- Experience supporting NHS Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) services, including Pharmacy First, New Medicine Service (NMS), Hypertension Case Finding, Contraception Service, Smoking Cessation and Vaccination Services.
- Experience in staff supervision, recruitment, workforce planning and performance management.
- Experience implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality assurance programmes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience supporting GPhC inspections, NHS compliance audits and clinical governance activities.
- Knowledge of procurement, supplier management, medicines optimisation and inventory control.
- Additional qualifications or training in Healthcare Management, Business Management, Leadership or Project Management would be advantageous.
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist in the UK or overseas would be advantageous.
