Job summary

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) is Scotland's only prosecution service, playing a vital role in delivering justice and supporting communities across the country. As a Fiscal Officer based in Kilmarnock, you will be part of a team that helps ensure cases progress efficiently through the justice system and that high-quality services are delivered to the public and justice partners.

Fiscal Officers are at the heart of COPFS operations, providing essential administrative and operational support across Local Court functions. This varied role can involve managing case records, preparing documentation for court, responding to enquiries, supporting the progression of cases and working closely with colleagues and stakeholders across the justice sector. No two days are the same, and your work will make a real contribution to the effective delivery of justice in Scotland.

Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop a career within the Civil Service. You do not need previous experience in criminal justice or legal qualifications. Instead, we are looking for organised, reliable and customer-focused individuals who can manage competing priorities, communicate effectively and deliver high-quality work in a busy environment.

Person specification

Fiscal Officer is an entry-level administrative role, and no previous criminal justice experience is required.

We welcome applications from candidates with skills and experience gained through work, education, volunteering or everyday life. We are interested in your potential as much as your previous experience.

You may be well suited to this role if you are:

Organised and reliable
Able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
Comfortable working as part of a team
A confident communicator who can interact professionally with others
Accurate and detail-focused
Willing to learn new systems, processes and ways of working

You should also be comfortable working in a busy environment and adapting to changing priorities when required.
