Panel Beater – Kynaston Commercials (Exeter) Ltd
We are looking for an experienced and skilled Panel Beater to join our busy commercial vehicle body shop.
The successful candidate will be responsible for repairing and replacing damaged body panels on a range of commercial vehicles, restoring vehicles to a high standard following accident damage and ensuring all repairs are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with manufacturer and company standards.
This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced Panel Beater who takes pride in their workmanship and is confident working on larger commercial vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessing damaged vehicle bodywork and determining the appropriate repair method
- Repairing and replacing damaged body panels and components
- Carrying out panel beating, straightening and reshaping of damaged panels
- Removing damaged panels and preparing vehicles for replacement parts
- Welding and fabrication work where required
- Measuring vehicle bodywork to ensure correct alignment and structural integrity
- Carrying out structural repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications
- Fitting and aligning replacement panels
- Repairing aluminium, steel and other vehicle body materials where applicable
- Using specialist body repair tools and equipment
- Preparing repaired areas for the Paint Technician
- Ensuring panel gaps, contours and alignment meet the required standard
- Identifying additional damage during the repair process
- Reporting additional repair requirements to the Workshop Controller or VDA
- Working from job cards, estimates and repair instructions
- Working closely with MET Technicians and Paint Technicians
- Completing repairs within agreed timescales
- Carrying out quality checks throughout the repair process
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
- Correctly maintaining and using workshop tools and equipment
- Following all health & safety procedures
You will be:
- Experienced in accident damage repair and vehicle bodywork
- Confident repairing and replacing damaged panels
- Skilled in panel beating, welding and fabrication
- Able to work accurately and efficiently to deadlines
- Experienced working with commercial vehicles or larger body structures
- Excellent attention to detail
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual and professional
- Committed to producing high-quality workmanship
- Able to follow manufacturer repair procedures and technical instructions
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
- HGV, LGV and LCV body repair
- Steel and aluminium bodywork
- MIG/MAG welding
- Structural repairs
- Chassis and body alignment
- NVQ/City & Guilds/IMI qualifications in Vehicle Body Repair or equivalent
