Job Purpose
The Marketing and Communications Officer will support the delivery of the Hospice’s marketing and communications strategy, with a particular focus on supporter, patient and family communications. The postholder will lead on the development and delivery of targeted communication journeys, ensuring that supporters, patients, carers and loved ones receive relevant and timely communications throughout their engagement with the Hospice. Working closely with fundraising and clinical colleagues, the role will help maximise stewardship opportunities, strengthen relationships and improve audience experience. The role will also be responsible for creating engaging content across a range of channels, gathering audience insight and supporting the wider Marketing and Communications team in delivering effective campaigns and communications.
Duties
Supporter and Patient Communications
- Develop and manage communication journeys for key audiences, including donors, event participants, patients, carers, volunteers and bereaved families.
- Work collaboratively with fundraising, clinical and operational teams to ensure communications are accurate, sensitive and aligned with organisational priorities.
- Identify opportunities to improve supporter stewardship and engagement through personalised communications.
- Ensure that communications are timely, relevant and reflect the Hospice's values and brand.
Email Marketing and Automation
- Lead on the use of the Hospice's email marketing platform, Dotdigital, to create, schedule and evaluate email campaigns.
- Develop and maintain automated communication journeys using Dotdigital and Raiser’s Edge.
- Segment audiences and use data to improve communication effectiveness and supporter experience.
- Monitor campaign performance and provide regular reports and recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and data protection requirements in all communications activity
Audience Insight and Research
- Conduct focus groups, surveys and informal market research with patients, families, supporters and other stakeholders.
- Gather and analyse feedback to better understand audience needs, preferences and experiences.
- Use insight and data to inform communications planning, content development and service improvement recommendations.
- Share audience insight with colleagues to support evidence-based decision making.
Content Creation
- Lead on the creation of engaging written content across a range of channels, including: newsletters, email campaigns, website content, social media, case studies, patient and supporter stories, marketing materials
- Ensure all content is consistent with the Hospice brand, tone of voice and communications objectives.
- Support the development of campaigns that raise awareness, support fundraising and promote Hospice services.Marketing Team Support
Marketing Team Support
- Provide general support to the Marketing and Communications team across campaigns, events and organisational projects.
- Assist with media relations, photography, video projects and promotional activities as required.
- Support the maintenance of marketing assets, communications calendars and content plans.
- Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the role.
Control of Infection
Prevention and management of infection is the responsibility of all members of staff and volunteers working at East Cheshire Hospice and forms an integral element of patient safety programmes. Where control of infection regimes are in force they are to be complied with at all times and staff are reminded of the importance of maintaining a high standard of personal and environmental hygiene and to follow local protocols.

Essential:
- Experience of creating content for multiple communications channels.
- Experience of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

- Experience in a marketing, communications or fundraising communications role.
- Experience of email marketing and audience communications.
- Experience of using CRM and email marketing systems, such as Raiser’s Edge and Dotdigital.
- Experience within the charity, healthcare or not-for-profit sector.
- Experience of supporter stewardship and donor communications.
- Experience of undertaking audience research, surveys or focus groups.
- Experience in web editing using a content management system (CMS), particularly WordPress.
Skills
