Experienced Agricultural Workshop Engineer / Mechanic
Oakfields Ag – Thaxted, Essex, CM6 2RH
£45,000–£60,000 per year, depending on experience
Monday–Friday | No weekends | No harvest call-outs | No regular overtime
We are looking for an experienced agricultural engineer or mechanic to join our workshop team at Oakfields Ag.
We are prepared to pay up to £60,000 for the right person – someone with strong agricultural machinery experience who can diagnose problems, make practical repair decisions and work confidently on a wide variety of tractors and farm machinery.
A different kind of agricultural engineering job
This isn't a typical dealer service role.
There are, no harvest breakdown rota and no regular weekend working.
Our machinery is bought and sold by us, so the objective is straightforward: identify the problem, make a sensible and effective repair, and get the machine ready for sale.
You will work on a huge variety of machinery of different ages and manufacturers, so no two days are quite the same.
We are particularly interested in someone with experience of:
- Tractors and agricultural machinery
- Mechanical fault finding and repairs
- Hydraulics
- Electrical fault finding
- Welding and fabrication
- Telehandlers and other agricultural equipment
- Diagnosing faults and deciding on the most practical repair
You don't need to be a specialist in every area. What matters most is strong mechanical knowledge, agricultural machinery experience and the ability to look at a problem, work out what's wrong and get it fixed.
The person we're looking for
Ideally, you'll already be working as an Agricultural Engineer, Service Technician, Agricultural Mechanic, or similar.
You'll be comfortable working independently and using your own judgement, but you'll also be someone who enjoys being part of a practical team and helping others when needed.
We're particularly interested in hearing from experienced dealer or field-service engineers who would like to move away from customer call-outs, harvest hours and weekend working while continuing to earn a strong salary.
What we offer
- £45,000–£60,000 salary depending on experience
- Monday to Friday
- 7:00am–4:30pm
- No weekend working
- No harvest call-out rota
- No regular overtime
- Free lunch every working day
- Company pension
- Sick pay
- Free on-site parking
- Varied work across tractors and agricultural machinery of all ages
- Established, friendly and practical team
- Permanent, full-time position
For an experienced agricultural engineer looking for a well-paid workshop role with proper work-life balance, this is an unusual opportunity.
If you're interested, we'd be very happy to have an informal and confidential conversation before you decide whether to apply.
