Communication and Engagement Assistant (12-month fixed term)

Salary: £31,537 pa

Hours: 37 Hours

Contract: 12-month fixed term contract

Location: SHQ, Huntingdon - Hybrid working

(We offer a flexible, agile, hybrid working pattern where you can work part from Service headquarters and other locations around Cambridgeshire and part from home, to meet the team and organisations’ needs – some travel around the county is expected for this role).

About the role

Do you have a strong interest in building your career within corporate communication and community engagement? This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our effective Communication and Engagement team working across all aspects of communication including, media, social media, internal communication and design.

If you like every day being different, want to work with colleagues across the whole Service, have a thirst for learning new skills and a creative energy and drive that will help promote the Service to Cambridgeshire’s communities, then this role would be great for you!

You will assist the communication officers and head of group to deliver the communication and engagement objectives aligned to our corporate plan (CRMP). Writing up and publishing incident details, assisting with day-to-day media queries, getting involved in community safety and recruitment campaigns, taking photos, producing videos and designing eye catching graphics for social media will be some of your new responsibilities – it’ll be a varied and busy role but thoroughly rewarding as your skills develop and you see the impact of your work.

About you

We are looking for a creative individual with a clear passion for writing, a good grasp of grammar (you’ll know your theres from your theirs and they’res) and great knowledge and experience of using different social media channels. Your ability to build relationships will be key to supporting the team and wider organisation.

In addition, you will have:

5 GCSEs (including English grade C or above) & 2 A-levels (any) – or equivalent qualifications.
Experience in posting on social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok LinkedIn, YouTube and NextDoor, recognising different audiences and how they use each channel.
Excellent writing skills - to produce engaging written work or content appropriate to the audience and communication channel.
Attention to detail and ability to proof-read.
The ability to work well in a team and contribute ideas, but also able to work independently using initiative.
The ability to self-manage a busy workload and juggle priorities, ensuring deadlines are met, but not being afraid to ask for help or guidance when needed.
The willingness to work outside of normal working hours when required (some evenings and weekend working is required to cover events and operational training exercises).
A proven creative mind to get messages across in a way that engages the audience both visually and in written word, taking advantage of current trends where appropriate.
The ability to work well with people and build trusted relationships.
A keen eye for photos and an ability to produce videos using editing software.
Experience of using Canva or other design tools is ideal but not essential if willing to learn.
