Full job description

We are a large NHS GP Surgery (working across two sites in Reading) with a friendly and hardworking team caring for 30,000 patients.

We are looking to recruit for a new Phlebotomist. We are flexible to offer a different range of working hours (between 20 to 25 hours a week) but the successful candidate must be flexible to fit in with our extended surgery opening times: Monday to Friday (8am to 8pm) and some Saturday morning (8:30 to 12:30).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
Collection of samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures.
Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
Checking patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible.
Recording collection of blood samples in patient record in accordance with practice procedure.
Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.
Notifying the clinical team of any significant patient issues.
Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

REQUIREMENTS:

Right to work in the UK.

Good communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure.

Experience working as phlebotomist.

Training as phlebotomist.

IT skills.

Able to easily commute to both surgeries.

Availability to cover any shifts during our opening times.

Able to pass a DBS check.

Note: If you are registered as a patient with us, before starting the role you will be asked to register elsewhere so this does not compromise anyone - clinicians or patient.
