Role Overview
Own the strategic direction, creative standards and day-to-day discipline of Wingman's creative and content function, spanning design, production, web and copywriting. As the agency has grown into larger, more complex client relationships across the UK, US, Canada, and beyond; this role exists to make sure creative output, prioritisation and quality control scale with those expectations, rather than being held together by individual heroics. This is a leadership role, not a hands-on production role.
You will provide direction, coaching and accountability to the Creative Manager and Content Lead, both of whom sit as respective 'technical leads' among their sub-teams, while you own the overall strategy, prioritisation framework, technical standards and quality bar that sits above them. You are the escalation point when either team lead needs help resolving conflicting priorities, technical roadblocks or capability gaps in their teams. This role is the bridge between the client-facing team, who own strategy, planning and campaign messaging, and the teams producing the work itself. You translate campaign briefs into consistent creative and content output, making sure copy, design and web production stay symbiotic and genuinely deliver the intended impact, target audience and brand feel for each client; not just execute the brief literally. You bring your own ideas and contributions to that conversation, while leaving strategy and account management to the client-facing team. This is a client production role; it covers what Wingman produces for clients, not Wingman's own campaigns, marketing or brand. Quality control and throughput of work through the function sit directly with you, supported by a dedicated proof-reader and Wingman's business systems and AI tools built to aid production, proofing and quality control.
Who We Are Looking For
We're looking for someone with several years' experience in a fast-paced agency environment, having worked across a genuine mix of content and campaign formats spanning digital, print and events. You'll have technical grounding in both web design and copywriting disciplines, well enough to direct and quality-check either with confidence; hands-on experience with design tools is a bonus, and any background in video production, SEO or PPC would set you ahead. You'll have line-managed a creative or content production team before, whether as a team leader or junior manager, and you're now ready to take the next step and properly own a function within a growing agency. This is a role for someone career-focused, ambitious and driven; organised and structured in how you work; and confident and assertive enough to hold a team to deadline and to a quality bar that matches what our clients expect
Reporting to: Working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer and marketing team on strategy, direction and vision for clients, translating this into the required execution; and the Managing Director and CIO on systems, processes, best practice and team management.
Direct reports: the full creative and content teams (design, production, web and copywriting), including the Creative Manager and Content Lead, who act as technical leads within their disciplines.
Responsibilities
Brand & Campaign Consistency
- Act as the translation point between the client-facing/strategy team and the creative and content production teams, so campaign briefs land as consistent, on-brand output.
- Own the consistency of brand direction, tone and feel across every piece of client production, from copy to design to web build, so nothing feels disjointed regardless of who produced it.
- Bring your own creative ideas and contributions to campaign planning conversations with the client-facing team, without owning strategy or account management yourself.
- Confirm production output genuinely serves the campaign's intended impact, target audience and messaging, not just the brief as written.
Strategy & Creative Direction
- Set the creative and content strategy for how Wingman's production teams deliver against our mapped client’s strategic direction – through content & campaigns, aligned to Full Funnel and Story Brand methodologies.
- Define and maintain the creative direction and quality bar expected across design, production, web and copywriting output, raising it in line with the growing maturity of clients we serve.
- Review creative and content approaches on larger or higher-risk accounts before they reach production, so direction is right before work is briefed in.
- Act as the final point of creative and editorial judgement when technical leads or team members disagree on approach, or a brief spans both copy and design.
Prioritisation & Scheduling
- Own workload prioritisation and scheduling across the full creative and content team directly, working with the CMO and Managing Director on capacity and commercial priority.
- Plan work at least one to two weeks ahead across both copy and design/production, with visibility of pinch points before they become late deliveries.
- Resolve competing priorities between clients or disciplines directly, drawing on the Creative Manager and Content Lead for technical input where needed.
- Monitor workload distribution across the team and flag resourcing gaps to the Managing Director in good time.
Technical Standards & Support
- Set the technical standards expected across design, web build and content production.
- Draw on the Creative Manager and Senior Copywriter as technical leads for best practice guidance, process queries and day-to-day technical support to their respective sub-teams.
- Own decisions on tooling, platforms and technical process for the function, including how AI-assisted production is used responsibly and consistently, working with the CIO where this touches wider business systems.
- Identify and close technical capability gaps across the team, whether through training, process change or bringing in specialist support.
Quality Control & Throughput
- Own quality control and throughput for everything the creative and content function produces for clients, supported by a dedicated proof-reader and Wingman's business systems and AI tools.
- Set and enforce the quality bar work must meet before it reaches a client, whatever team or discipline it came from.
- Identify recurring quality issues, whether rooted in weak briefs, ideation, technical gaps or capability, and own the corrective plan.
- Build sufficient proofing and quality control time into scheduling, rather than letting it get compressed under deadline pressure.
Team Leadership & Development
- Line manage the full creative and content team, including regular one-to-ones, objective setting and progress against Career Pathways for all team members.
- Manage the performance and development of the Creative Manager and Content Lead in their technical lead capacity, coaching them on the best practice guidance and process support they give their sub-teams.
- Identify capability or confidence gaps anywhere in the team and put concrete plans in place to close them.
- Foster a genuinely joined-up working relationship between the design/production and copywriting disciplines, so a designer and copywriter working on the same piece treat it as one coherent output, not two separate handoffs.
Internal Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with the client-facing/account and strategy team to understand campaign objectives, target audience and desired impact before work is briefed into production.
- Represent the creative and content function in planning and review conversations with the Leadership Team.
- Act as the internal escalation point for the client-facing team on complex or high-stakes production; this is not a client-facing role.
KPI Metrics
You will be responsible for the following quarterly KPIs across the combined creative and content function:
- Client-facing quality standard - work reaching client with zero avoidable errors or brief deviations (95% or above)
- On-time delivery across both disciplines - task completion within deadline (90% or above)
- Utilisation rate across the function - hours logged vs. working hours (90% or above)
- Production revision rate - tasks requiring rework after internal QC (20% or fewer)
- Escalation resolution time - priority conflicts or technical blockers resolved within 24 hours
- Team development - each progressing against agreed development plan and working with other leadership members to agree plans, reward and training directions
