Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to support the overall management and daily operations of our nursery. The successful candidate will work closely with the Nursery Manager to ensure the delivery of outstanding childcare and early years education, while creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children. This role offers an excellent opportunity to lead and inspire a team, maintain high standards of practice, and contribute to the continuous development of the nursery.

Duties

Support the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day management and operation of the nursery.
Lead, motivate, and supervise nursery staff to deliver high-quality childcare and educational experiences.
Oversee the planning, organisation, and implementation of age-appropriate learning programmes that support children's development in line with the EYFS framework.
Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and safeguarding of all children at all times.
Build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, carers, staff, and external professionals through effective communication.
Monitor children's progress and ensure accurate records, observations, and assessments are maintained.
Assist with staff recruitment, inductions, supervision, appraisals, and ongoing professional development.
Organise staff rotas and support the effective deployment of staff across the nursery.
Ensure compliance with all nursery policies, safeguarding procedures, health and safety regulations, and statutory requirements.
Support quality improvement initiatives and contribute to achieving and maintaining high inspection standards.
Take responsibility for the nursery in the absence of the Nursery Manager.
Work collaboratively with external agencies and professionals to support children's individual needs.

Experience

Proven leadership or management experience within a childcare or nursery setting, ideally in a Deputy Manager, Room Leader, or senior practitioner role.
Extensive knowledge of childcare practices, the EYFS framework, safeguarding legislation, and child development.
Experience working directly with children within an early years setting.
Strong leadership, organisational, and decision-making skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to work independently, use initiative, and effectively support and develop a team.
Experience in staff supervision, mentoring, and performance management is desirable.
A relevant Early Years qualification (Level 3 or above) is essential
A valid driving licence is desirable for attending meetings, training, or supporting nursery activities where required.

This position is for September 2026 start.
