Full job description

We are seeking a strong general kitchen assistant to join our Catering Manager at Ann Tayler Children's Centre in Hackney.

You will be starting work at 11am each weekday and assisting with the final lunch service for both Ann Tayler, and an adjoining centre.

Once lunch is complete, you will help to clean and clear the kitchen, as well as prepare and serve the afternoon snack.

Additional tasks will include: preparation for the following day, accepting, checking and putting away deliveries ensuring temperature checks and correct storage and stock rotation is adhered to at all times and documented.

A passion for cooking is essential as all of our menu's are prepared and cooked fresh on site each day. We will offer full training and career progression to the right candidate.

Please be aware, the end of the day is lone working in the kitchen, and you will work closely with your line manager, colleagues at the adjoining centre and the Children's Centre Manager to ensure service offering and requirements are met at all times .

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work to deadlines, communicate clearly and be part of a wider team to carry out routine administration tasks accurately and on time.

Preferred skills include:

a background in catering, ideally in an educational setting
a sound and up to date knowledge of food safety procedures
an understanding of special dietary needs and sound allergy awareness, although full training will be provided
Candidates must be prepared to obtain an enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) disclosure which is satisfactory to both Ashlyns and the centre and be rechecked throughout their employment. All other safe guarding conditions including clearances for satisfactory references, medicals and right of work in the UK must be obtained.
Candidates will also need to complete timely and compulsory online training

Working hours are 25 per week, Monday to Friday, 11am to 4pm.

We offer 5.6 weeks annual leave (which in part are to be taken during compulsory closures: 2 weeks in August, and 1 week at Christmas) and pension.

Please note the role is physically demanding
