All about the Role
Lead Broker - Peterborough City Council
The Lead Broker plays a key role within Peterborough City Council's Brokerage Service, helping to ensure the timely delivery of safe, effective, and value-for-money care and support for people across the city. Working closely with operational teams, care providers, and partner organisations, the Brokerage Service coordinates care arrangements, responds to system pressures, and supports individuals to access the right care at the right time.
As a Lead Broker, you will provide operational leadership and guidance within the brokerage team, supporting brokers to deliver consistent, high-quality, and compliant practice. You will contribute to the effective management of workflows, support the identification and mitigation of risks, and drive continuous improvement to ensure the service can respond to changing demands and priorities.
This role has a significant influence on service delivery, provider relationships, financial oversight, and outcomes for people who use our services. Through strong leadership, collaborative working, and a focus on best practice, the Lead Broker will help to ensure that services remain person-centred, efficient, and sustainable, while maintaining high standards of governance, accountability, and value for money.

All about our Team
The Brokerage Team consists of the Brokerage Manager, The Lead Broker and five Brokers. The Lead Broker will have line manager responsibility for the five Brokers and report to the Brokerage Manager. The team is part of the wider Commissioning directorate and responsible for sourcing care provision for those 18 and older. This includes older people, those with a learning disability and these with mental health needs. The Brokerage team works collaboratively with social work teams and care providers to source the care required in a timely manner.
All about You
You will have experience in adult social care brokerage, commissioning, or a similar operational environment, with a strong understanding of how effective brokerage contributes to positive outcomes for individuals, supports system flow, and delivers value for money.
You will be confident in building positive working relationships with colleagues, providers, and partner organisations, enabling you to coordinate activity effectively and resolve issues in a timely manner. You will understand the importance of working within established processes and governance frameworks, ensuring compliance, financial accountability, and accurate record-keeping.
You will be skilled in analysing information, identifying risks and opportunities, and using insight to support service delivery, decision-making, and continuous improvement. With a proactive approach, you will contribute to the development of business processes that enhance service quality, consistency, and resilience.
A confident and professional communicator, you will be able to provide clear updates, share information effectively, and escalate concerns where appropriate. You will also be highly organised, capable of managing competing priorities, and willing to support colleagues and the wider team when needed.
