Sales & Customer Service Advisor – Builders’ MerchantOverview

Primethorpe Paving is a family-run paving and landscaping merchant based in Peterborough. We are looking for a friendly, confident and enthusiastic Sales & Customer Service Advisor to join our team.

This is a varied, customer-facing role based at our sales counter and showroom. You will serve both trade customers and members of the public, helping them choose suitable paving and landscaping products and providing helpful, straightforward advice.

You will also handle telephone and email enquiries, prepare quotations, process orders and take payments. We are looking for someone who communicates well, stays organised and enjoys helping customers.

Previous experience within a builders’ merchant, trade counter, showroom or customer-facing sales environment would be beneficial, but it is not essential. Full training on our products and systems will be provided.

Key duties

Welcome and serve trade and public customers at the sales counter
Assist customers in our outdoor display area and help them choose suitable paving and landscaping products
Answer customer enquiries in person, by telephone and by email
Provide product information, prices and delivery details
Prepare quotations and follow up sales enquiries
Process customer orders and take payments accurately
Help customers calculate product quantities where required
Deal with routine order, collection and delivery enquiries
Build positive relationships with new and returning customers
Work closely with our office, sales and yard teams to ensure orders are processed smoothly
Keep the sales counter and customer display areas clean and presentable
Develop a good working knowledge of our products and services

Skills and experience

Previous experience in customer service, retail, sales, a trade counter or a builders’ merchant is preferred but not essential
A friendly, confident and professional manner
Strong verbal and written communication skills
A helpful and patient approach when dealing with customers
Comfortable using computers and learning new order-processing systems
Good attention to detail when preparing quotations and processing orders
Able to organise and prioritise tasks in a busy environment
Willingness to learn about paving and landscaping products
Able to work effectively as part of a small team
Reliable, punctual and willing to take responsibility for your work

Working hours

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week.

Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm.

The role also includes approximately 12 Saturday mornings per year, worked on a rota from 9:00am–12:00pm. Saturday hours are paid as overtime at time and one-third.

Salary

Salary is competitive and will be agreed based on the successful candidate’s previous experience and suitability for the role.
