SPRinT Education Fellow in the department of Neonates & General Paeds

We are inviting applications to fill our SPRinT Education Fellow vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Neonates & General Paediatrics. This post is fixed term for 12 months

Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice by the intended start date.

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated paediatrician (ST4 or above) with an interest in Education to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Childrens Hospital, as a SPRInT (Specialist Paediatric Regional Innovative Training) Fellow for a period of 12 months commencing March 2026.

This post would be suitable for a trainee who would like to train in the care of neonates and in education. The Fellow post does count towards training and is not an Out of Programme Post.

Brief description of SPRInT

SPRInT (Specialised Paediatric Regional Innovative Training) has been developed to replace the PGDip and provide training for Yorkshire and Humber paediatric trainees at ST5-ST6 (predominantly). The course covers all aspects of the Progress Plus curriculum. The first year of the course was launched in September 2023, so this is an exciting opportunity to be involved in developing and designing the course. The course will be delivered in a hybrid format utilising a combination of F2F and online sessions, utilising the software Blackboard. Some of the course material will be delivered by external courses but the majority will be in house.

There is administrative support to assist with the day to day organising of the teaching days and will also be able to provide support and training around the use of Blackboard

Why you should join our Team

The SPRInT fellow post is attached to the neonatal unit at Leeds General Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital. The Neonatal unit is one of the largest neonatal services in the UK and the team provide specialist care to around 1,600 newborn babies each year, many who need intensive care or surgery. The neonatal service provides care to some of the most complex neonates including cardiac care. The clinical component of the fellow post will be based at the LGI, where there in neonatal intensive care, high dependency care and surgical newborns and then also at St Jamess where there is a special care baby unit.

The SPRInT Fellow will be working closely with Dr Mullins who is a neonatal consultant in Leeds. She is also TPD Education lead for the Yorkshire and Humber deanery and will support the SPRInT fellow in their role.

What you will bring to the role

The SPRInT Fellows role will include:

Maintenance and optimisation of educational material on Blackboard (alongside faculty)
Creation of online tutorials/evaluation of learning mirroring progress Plus competencies covered in taught course
Evaluation and appraisal of tutorials for quality assurance
Further development of online learning environment and ad-hoc faculty support to incorporate virtual teaching methods and resources into training
Supporting the live on-line teaching as session co-moderator
Involvement in development, advertising, and administration of SPRInT

On call commitment in Neonates

The role suits trainees who are:

Motivated to be part of the development of the new Specialty Training Teaching Programme called SPRInT.

This post will be 50% clinical with the neonatal or general paediatric team and 50% non-clinical during daytime working with full on call commitment to Neonates or general paediatrics.
