Full job description

We are now looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Team Leader to join our team!

Role Purpose:

To lead day-to-day manufacturing engineering activities with a hands-on approach, supporting people, process and workflow across the department. The Team Leader will lead by example, introduce a more systematic and disciplined approach to daily operations, and drive continuous improvement through standardisation, problem-solving and close support of the team.

General Responsibilities & Tasks

Support, implement and maintain manufacturing engineering systems to deliver product on time, to quality requirements and to cost
Lead the production engineering team through visible, hands-on involvement and day-to-day direction
Ensure procedures, process controls and documentation are accurate, up to date and consistently followed, including review and sign-off of drawings where required
Support quotations for OW / internal work with accurate technical and operational input
Support project planning and delivery to ensure milestones, costs and timescales are achieved
Work closely with scheduling and planning functions to improve workflow, prioritisation and departmental output
Ensure the "yellow dot" system is supported and adopted for new programmes
Embed disciplined CNC programming and change control culture so that changes are only made when required, proven and approved
Embed a right first-time behaviour
Attend meetings, communicate actions clearly and follow through on agreed tasks
Produce clear reports and updates to support operational decision-making and progress
Use KPIs to monitor performance, identify issues and improve delivery across areas of responsibility
Take responsibility for daily departmental workflow allocation, ensuring priorities are clear and resources are used effectively
Support on the job training of apprentices, trainees and new employees if and when required.

Relationship Management

Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to coordinate priorities, resolve issues and maintain compliance with manufacturing objectives
Communicate and recommend solutions without compromising quality or service while optimising cost

Self-Management

Support, comply with and promote Health & Safety regulations, the company handbook and all other company policies and procedures
Build a positive team environment and contribute proactively to strong team working
Use sound judgement to identify improvements and implement effective solutions
Take ownership of standards, workflow discipline and team cohesion
Remain self-aware, resilient, optimistic and open to change
Demonstrate a collaborative, professional and lead-by-example approach at all times

Skills & Attributes

Ability to lead from the front and apply sound judgement in day-to-day decision-making
Effective problem-solving, planning and prioritisation skills
Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with teams and stakeholders
Good understanding of engineering, scientific and technical information relevant to manufacturing operations

Qualifications & Experience

Relevant manufacturing or engineering qualification is preferred, such as Degree, HND, BTEC Level 5, NVQ Level 5 or equivalent practical experience
Demonstrable experience working within a manufacturing environment in a hands-on engineering or supervisory role
Good working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD
Experience supporting new product introduction, process change, design updates and production readiness activities
