Job summary

The Fair Work Agency (FWA) launched in April 2026 with a clear and ambitious mission: to make work fairer for everyone. We bring together key powers to protect workers, support responsible businesses, and take decisive action against exploitation. Today, we regulate employment agencies, license gangmasters in the agricultural and horticultural sectors, tackle serious labour abuse and modern slavery, and enable enforcement of the National Minimum Wage.

But this is just the start.

With new powers under the Employment Rights Act 2025, we are expanding our role even further. We are building the capability to ensure workers receive what they are entitled to, from holiday pay to statutory sick pay, and strengthening the system so that rights are not just set out in law but actively upheld in practice.

Job description

As an Intelligence Officer your duties will include :

Proactively researching, risk assessing, analysing and developing information received in order to produce timely, relevant and detailed National Intelligence Model (NIM) related intelligence products. Such products will include strategic and tactical operational or problem profiles.
Proactively logging, grading and indexing intelligence.
Preparing actionable intelligence led packages for consideration by the FWA Tasking and Coordination process.
Administer/support the FWA Tasking and Other Government Department (OGD) check process as required.
Developing and maintaining effective channels of communication both internal and external to the FWA, including with law enforcement agencies, other Government Departments and new sources of information.
Using prescribed guidance documentation, initiate and respond to requests for information to or from other agencies, ensuring that such requests are lawful, accurate and proportionate.
Disseminating intelligence products internally and to partner agencies as appropriate in accordance with Authorised Professional Practice (APP) and relevant legislation.
Maintaining accurate records of all work undertaken in order to produce reports and statements to a high evidential standard. These may be for presentation in a Court of law (Civil or criminal case proceedings).
Discussing and presenting pertinent cases of note at team briefings or meetings.
Producing a weekly intelligence summary for presentation at the Weekly Management Meeting
Working with Senior Field Intelligence Officers, providing support to operations and investigations
Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required by the FWA ( that are commensurate with the grade of the role)

Person specification

Essential criteria

Experience of working in an intelligence led organisation.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment either independently or as part of a team.
Excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation skills.
Excellent attention to detail to ensure records are accurate.
Excellent research and analysis skills.
Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
IT literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Desirable criteria

Experience in handling confidential information.
Ability to consider risk and initiate an appropriate response.
Good practical working knowledge and application of relevant regulatory requirements and legislation (including but not limited to the Data Protection Act).
Practical Experience in the preparation and presentation of NIM related analytical products (e.g. Problem/Tactical/Subject profiles).

Due to the nature of these roles, the successful candidates must already hold, or be able to attain, Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) at Level 3 to undertake this role (this is in addition to the requirement to hold / obtain SC Vetting)

Sift Information

At Sift you will be assessed on your CV, Personal Statement and the following Behaviours:

Should a large number of applications be received, an initial sift may be undertaken using the Personal Statement Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift or progressed straight to assessment / interview.

Interview Information

Interviews will be conducted w/c 3 August. Interviews may either be conducted in person or virtually (via video conferencing). Candidates will be advised of the format in advance.

Hybrid Working

At FWA, we are proud to be able to offer our people the opportunity to work in a hybrid way which combines working from home and the office. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement, and your allocated office will be your contractual place of work.

There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues. If hybrid working is suitable for you and your role, you will be expected to attend the office, or other business-related site, for 40% of your working week. The arrangements will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account.

Therefore, we would encourage candidates to consider if the commute from home to the office is a feasible distance to travel before making an application. Please note that if you are successful, hybrid working will be discussed prior to taking up the post.
