Key Objectives:
We produce a wide range of products and sub-assemblies in small to medium sized batches. We have an opportunity for a Production Planner to work with our current staff to processes and plan, organise all production operations, ensuring that goods are produced efficiently, on time, within budget and to high quality standards whilst focusing on the continuous development of the production team and department.
Responsibilities:
- Plan production schedules for the build and delivery of external customer orders (Supply Only), Engineer Installations, Parts Requests, and Van Stock.
- Review and adjust production schedules as required, ensuring all affected departments are informed of any changes or delays, and implement and maintain the production schedule accordingly.
- Hold weekly meetings with the Sales and Service departments and other key stakeholders to ensure customer expectations are managed and delivery commitments are met.
- Determine the labour, material, machinery, and tooling resources required to meet production schedules.
- Ensure production records are maintained accurately, including build sheets, stock control procedures, and production instructions.
- Ensure compliance with the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and associated procedures.
- Implement and monitor quality control systems to maintain product and process standards.
- Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the manufacturing software, including updating labour times and product structures where required.
- Monitor non-conformances, customer returns, and engineer product returns, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken.
- Prepare and maintain production reports to support day-to-day operations and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Run the MRP production schedule every other day to ensure all customer orders are captured accurately and scheduled efficiently.
- Provide lead time information to the Sales team for both third-party procured products and internally manufactured and assembled products.
- Distribute production workflows to the Production Supervisor, coordinating priorities with the Production and Stores teams.
- Provide administrative cover one day per week, ensuring continuity of departmental operations.
- Ensure all components required for assembly are ordered and expedite outstanding purchase orders where necessary, working closely with the Purchasing team to ensure materials are received on time.
- Liaise with the in-house Machine Shop to align manufacturing lead times with assembly schedules, ensuring efficient production planning and on-time delivery.
- Run daily reports for Supply Only, Repairs, and Installations to ensure live order data is monitored and all work is progressed in a timely manner.
Key Skills:
- Strong production planning and scheduling skills.
- Good understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Effective inventory and stock control management.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across Sales, Production, Purchasing, Stores, and Engineering teams.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and make informed decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when managing production data and reports.
- Experience in capacity planning and resource allocation.
- Good understanding of procurement processes and supplier lead time management.
- Experience monitoring KPIs and producing production performance reports.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and manufacturing/ERP/MRP software.
- Ability to identify process improvements and implement more efficient ways of working.
- Strong customer focus with an understanding of the impact of production planning on customer satisfaction.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Experience in supporting team development, maintaining training records, and coordinating employee training to ensure skills and competency requirements are met.
