Full job description

Responsible to: Service manager

Location: Outreach base within Mansfield and Ashfield, office base isNIDAS, Suite 3 Hawthorne House, Ransom Wood Estate, Southwell Road West, Mansfield, Notts, NG21 0HJ

Salary: £25,628 FTE

Hours: 22.5 hrs per week over 3 full days (working pattern to be discussed at interview)

Contract: fixed-term until 1st October 2028 with possible extension/increased hours depending on funding)

Closing date: Tuesday 8th September 2026 5pm

Interview date: Tuesday 15th September 2026 (in person or Microsoft teams)

About the role:

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Referral and Assessment Worker who will be the first point of contact for clients affected by domestic abuse. As part of the role you'll conduct risk assessments, develop safety plans, and offer emotional support and practical guidance to help clients navigate complex situations and access necessary resources.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse, they will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to trauma-informed practice. You'll be a key part of a supportive team, working collaboratively to empower survivors and foster safer communities.

Main duties and responsibilities:

· Conduct initial comprehensive assessments to identify immediate risk and support needs

· Safety Planning thorough assessments of risk and need you will co-create comprehensive safety plans tailored to their specific circumstances. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of individuals/family are managed effectively.

· Advocacy, Referrals and Signposting: Identifying client needs and making appropriate referrals to other specialist agencies and services within the community. Advocating for clients where required and ensuring they have access to housing, legal aid, mental health service and other essential support.

· Wellbeing/Therapeutic Interventions: Offering group therapeutic support, implementing evidence-based techniques to help survivors process trauma, build resilience, and develop coping mechanisms.

· Crisis Intervention: Responding to crisis situations, de-escalating conflict, and ensuring the safety and well-being of clients.

· Psychoeducation: Educating clients about domestic abuse, its impact, and available support options.

· Emotional Support: Providing a non-judgmental and supportive space for clients to express their feelings and experiences.

· Collaboration: Working closely with other professionals, including police, social services, health providers, and legal representatives, to ensure a coordinated approach to client care.

· Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and confidential client records, documenting interventions, progress, and outcomes in line with organisational policies and professional standards.

· Networking: Attend relevant meetings and events to represent the organisation and share best practices.

· Monitoring and Evaluation: be able to demonstrate the impact the role makes through case studies and feedback

· Training and Development: Stay up-to-date with best practices in domestic abuse support, wellbeing, and trauma informed practices (most training required is ran Tuesday – Thursday)

About you:

You will be a dynamic self-starter playing a key role in the development and growth of the service. You will be empathetic and ensure that the voice of the survivor is heard and that it feeds into the strategic direction of the organisation to promote a client led vision. Demonstrate an understanding of domestic abuse dynamics, trauma-informed practice, and wellbeing principles. Have excellent communication skills and have the ability to build a rapport quickly, in person or virtually. You will have the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidates will always work to a high standard of empathy, patience, and understanding, with a knowledge of safeguarding procedures and practices.
