GENERAL

The Women’s Centre Cornwall has grown from its early roots as a Rape Crisis Centre into an innovative, award-winning feminist organisation which provides a wide range of services for women and girls in our communities. Our work with survivors of sexual and domestic violence is our core specialism as we believe that there can be no real gender equality without a complete cessation of violence against women. In addition, we provide community-based activities across Cornwall and support women ex-offenders across Cornwall, Devon and Dorset.

The Olive Project is a by and for organization that support Black and Minoritized Victims and Survivors (BMVS) of domestic abuse and sexual violence. We recognize how the intersections of racism and misogyny can create additional barriers and challenges to BMVS and that without an intersectional approach there can be no cessation of violence against women.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the project is to improve care for Black and Minoritised (BM) women in Cornwall Who can experience multiple adversities (substance misuse, racism, xenophobia, homelessness, immigration abuse, domestic abuse) through a trauma stabilisation programme, to support women who often do not engage with services and where childhood sexual abuse is often, the undisclosed original trauma. As a result, these women are more at risk of sexual exploitation / abusive relationships. They may be individuals who are frequent attenders at crisis services or present at different services multiple times throughout the system.

Responsibilities

§ To manage referrals into the service and carry out handover meetings with each woman

§ Carry out initial assessments with women using a trauma informed and anti-oppressive approach

§ Provide psychoeducational support and trauma stabilisation for a varied caseload of women

Maintain and update clear and accurate data records of case management
Utilise a range of qualitative and quantitative tools to monitor women’s journey of progress
Contribute to maintaining up to date knowledge of services available and ensure women are aware of different pathways available to them

§ Ensure all safeguarding risks including any racist incidents are communicated affectively to the Safeguarding Lead/SV Pathway Lead

§ To undertake monthly line management and 6-weekly external clinical supervision

Be responsible for own safety and others affected by your activities and to ensure adherence to TWCC policies and procedures regarding Health & Safety, including lone working

§ Commitment to undertake TWCC core accredited training course ‘Understanding and Working with Sexual Violence’ and The Olive Project’s anti-oppressive training.

§ To carry out such other duties as may be requested that are deemed reasonablyconsistent with the post holder’s position.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience of working in social care/support work

✓

Qualification in Counselling or coaching/mentoring

✓

Experience of working with people who have experienced trauma and how are black and minoritised backgrounds.

✓

Experience of working with people experiencing domestic/sexual abuse, homelessness, criminal justice, immigration abuse, substance misuse or mental health

✓

Knowledge of trauma stabilisation techniques

✓

Experience of undertaking needs assessments and maintaining risk assessments

✓

Experience of monitoring and data collection systems

✓

Motivational interviewing and coaching skills

✓

Ability to quickly build rapport, develop trust and work in a trauma-informed and holistic way

✓

Experience of multi-agency working, attending MDT’s and developing partnerships with local organisations

✓

Ability to prioritise and manage a varied caseload

✓

Ability to maintain an inclusive, non-judgemental, inspiring and empowering approach

✓

Understanding of violence against women and the importance of a women centred anti-oppressive approach

✓

Ability to understand, empathise and the organisation’s ethos, aims, principles and policies

✓

Adherence to organisational policies, particularly with regard to child and adult safeguarding

✓

Ability to engage with women who may find it difficult to access services

✓

Ability to communicate with and develop and maintain constructive working relationships with a wide range of people using excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Commitment to extending professional competence, including ability to reflect on practice

Good computer literacy and administrative skills

Ability to travel to different locations
