HR Assistant – Fixed Term Contract (6 months with possibility to be extended to 1 year)
We are a fast-paced fulfilment and logistics business supporting a wide range of retail brands with their warehousing, order fulfilment and distribution needs. Our warehouse operation is at the heart of what we do, and as we approach our busiest time of year from September onwards, we are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive HR Assistant to join our team.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a busy environment, thrives on variety, and wants to build their career in HR. Our peak season sees a significant increase in temporary agency workers and permanent employees, so we are looking for someone who can learn quickly, build strong relationships, and provide excellent support across the business.
This is a fully office-based role, requiring attendance five days per week due to the hands-on nature of the position.
About the Role
Our HR team is looking for an organised, approachable and hardworking HR Assistant to initially support with onboarding of agency workers and daily/weekly timesheets. There is also an opportunity to be trained and involved with all other aspects of HR including recruitment, Health & Safety, and general HR administration.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, professional, able to maintain strict confidentiality, and willing to support other departments whenever required. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people and wants to develop within a varied HR role.
Key Responsibilities
Employment & HR
- Manage relationships with temporary recruitment agencies, including onboarding agency workers, approving timesheets, responding to queries and providing required documentation.
- Process new starters, prepare employment contracts and onboarding documentation, ensuring all required paperwork is completed.
- Support the HR Manager with recruitment activities, including candidate screening, arranging and conducting interviews.
- Arrange mandatory online training and induction programmes.
- Carry out five-year employment background checks.
- Maintain accurate employee records, including holiday, sickness and personnel files (paper and electronic).
- Update and maintain the HR system with employee information.
- Assist with payroll processing and administration of employee leavers where required.
- Collate and process weekly timesheets.
- Assist with employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, welfare and dismissal processes.
- Liaise with employment law advisers where appropriate.
- Support the annual employee performance review process.
- Keep up to date with HR legislation and best practice to continuously improve HR processes.
Health & Safety
- Support compliance with Health & Safety legislation and employee wellbeing initiatives.
- Assist with risk assessments, warehouse accreditation requirements and training records.
- Work closely with the General/Warehouse Manager to review working practices and ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards.
- Deliver Health & Safety awareness training where required.
- Conduct employee inductions and first-day site tours.
- Coordinate and monitor staff training requirements.
- Keep up to date with changes in Health & Safety legislation.
General Administration
- Provide administrative support to the warehouse management team and wider office functions as required.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Assist other departments during busy periods.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop within the role.

Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous HR administration experience.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) as a minimum.
Desirable:
- CIPD qualification or currently working towards one.
- Previous experience within warehousing, logistics or fulfilment environments.
- Payroll administration experience.
