Trainee Events Assistant
About the Role
Create AV is a small, experienced Audio Visual company specialising in AV for exhibitions, alongside conferences, corporate events, meetings and live events across the UK.
Exhibitions are at the heart of what we do. We regularly supply AV equipment and support for exhibition stands and events, working with exhibitors, agencies, organisers and venues.
We are looking for a Trainee Events Assistant to join our team. This is a practical, hands-on role for someone who wants to build a career in the events and AV industry.
You don't need previous AV experience, but you do need to be practical, reliable, willing to learn and happy to get involved.
This is not a button-pushing role. A large part of the job involves preparing equipment, loading vehicles, travelling to exhibition venues, setting up equipment, supporting events and packing everything away afterwards.
What You'll Be Doing
The role will mainly involve exhibition AV, with additional work supporting our internal and external AV requirements.
Exhibitions
- Preparing AV equipment for exhibition jobs
- Loading and unloading vans
- Delivering equipment to exhibition venues
- Helping set up screens, displays, sound systems and other AV equipment on exhibition stands
- Running and securing cables safely and neatly
- Supporting the team during exhibition build-up and breakdown
- Assisting with equipment changes and requirements during events
- Working alongside exhibitors, agencies, organisers and venue teams
- Collecting equipment once exhibitions finish
Other Events & AV Work
- Assisting with conferences, corporate events and meetings
- Setting up screens, projectors, speakers, microphones and other AV equipment
- Carrying out basic equipment checks
- Helping with deliveries and collections
- Assisting with event setup and pack-down
- Helping troubleshoot straightforward issues
- Supporting more experienced members of the team on-site
Warehouse
- Preparing and checking equipment
- Cleaning and packing AV equipment
- Keeping equipment organised and ready for hire
- Helping with stock checks
- Keeping the warehouse clean and tidy
Our work isn't limited to large events.
You may be preparing equipment for an exhibition one day, and then supporting a conference or corporate event later in the week.
This variety is an important part of the role and gives you the opportunity to learn how different types of AV work are delivered.
This Is a Hands-On Role
We're looking for someone who is happy to get stuck in.
The job involves lifting and moving equipment, loading vehicles, travelling to venues, working during exhibition build-up and breakdown, using manual tools, setting up equipment, running cables, packing equipment away and keeping things organised.
As we generally transport our own equipment for setup and colleciton. Being comfortable driving vans up to long wheel based size. Particuarlly in and around London is important.
You won't be sitting behind a desk or simply pressing buttons during events.
As you gain experience, you'll learn how AV equipment works and gradually take on more technical responsibility.
Working Hours
Event and exhibition work can be demanding at certain times of the year, and working hours will vary depending on our workload.
During busy exhibition periods, you should expect early starts, late finishes, evenings and weekend work. Some exhibition builds and breakdowns take place outside normal working hours, and longer days are sometimes required. .
This is not a conventional 9–5 role. Flexibility is an important part of working in the exhibition and live events industry. Overtime is paid in addition to annual salary for outside contracted working hours/days

- Interested in exhibitions, events and AV
Previous AV experience is not essential. Full training will be provided.
A full driving licence is required.
What We Don't Expect
You don't need to arrive as an experienced AV technician.
We're not looking for a white-glove technician or someone who only wants to operate equipment. We're looking for someone who is prepared to learn the industry from the ground up and get involved in the practical side of delivering events.
The right person will be happy loading a van in the morning, setting up an exhibition stand during the day and helping pack everything away at the end of an event.
Progression
For the right person, this role can develop into a more technical AV position.
As your knowledge and experience grow, you'll have the opportunity to take on more responsibility with AV equipment, exhibition setups and technical event support.
