The Public Health Service at Gateshead Council works to improve population health and reduce inequalities by putting prevention, evidence and partnership at the heart of decisionmaking. We lead delivery of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Health in All Policies approach, working across the Council, NHS and wider system to address the wider determinants of health. Using strong public health intelligence and insight, we support action across the life course, from children and young people to adult wellbeing, prevention and health protection, ensuring services are targeted where they will have the greatest impact.

The Public Health Intelligence Analyst plays a critical role in turning complex data into actionable evidence based insight that shapes better health outcomes for local communities. Working at the intersection of evidence, policy and practice, the role supports the delivery of public health priorities, the Health and Wellbeing Strategy and the Thrive Agenda by providing highquality intelligence, analysis and advice. Through robust analysis of health, demographic and inequalities data, the postholder enables informed decisionmaking across the Council and its partners, helping to reduce health inequalities, improve population health and ensure resources are targeted where they can make the greatest impact.

What you'll get to do:

Deliver and monitor public health priorities, the Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Thrive Agenda to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Analyse, interpret and present complex public health intelligence in clear, accessible and statistically robust ways for diverse audiences.
Provide proactive, expert analytical advice to public health colleagues and Council officers to inform planning and decisionmaking.
Develop and enhance public health data systems and datasets, working with partners and making effective use of emerging technologies.
Apply professional judgement to statistical analysis, clearly explaining conclusions to provide assurance and support learning.
Coordinate, validate and qualityassure data from multiple sources, identifying and resolving data quality issues.
Support and lead the development of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and deliver targeted intelligence projects, including inequalities and equity audits.
Use evidence and insight to support policy development, respond to legislative change and advise senior leaders and partners.

What you'll bring:

A relevant degree or professional qualification, or equivalent experience in a comparable analytical or public health intelligence role.
Strong understanding of the data, analytics and intelligence needs of local government and the wider health and care system, including relevant public health legislation, national strategies, policies and interventions.
Indepth knowledge of health inequalities, the social determinants of health, and the effective use of health and demographic datasets to inform decisionmaking.
Proven experience applying statistical techniques to health data, including methods such as standardisation, confidence intervals and statistical process control, to support surveillance, needs assessment, audit and commissioning.
Demonstrable ability to analyse large, complex and linked datasets across multiple information systems, presenting findings clearly and accurately to a range of audiences.
Experience working effectively within a local authority or specialist service environment, providing balanced, evidencebased advice and influencing senior leaders and stakeholders.
Excellent communication, problemsolving and information governance skills, including working confidently with GDPR and data protection requirements, tailoring analysis for different audiences, and proficient use of Microsoft Office.
