Full job description

Reporting to the Project Director, the Junior Health & Safety Advisor will be based predominantly at our Nuclear & Defence site in Reading, providing day-to-day health and safety support to operational teams working within a highly regulated environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recently qualified Health & Safety professional to gain hands-on experience within one of the UK's most complex and safety-critical sectors, with ongoing support, mentoring and development from an experienced internal HSEQ team.

About the role

Role responsibilities

Supporting the delivery of Health & Safety initiatives across our site in Reading.
Conducting regular site inspections, audits and workplace safety observations.
Assisting with the review and development of risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
Supporting operational teams to ensure compliance with site-specific procedures and client requirements.
Monitoring health and safety performance and helping identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Participating in incident investigations and contributing to root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Promoting a positive safety culture through engagement with employees, supervisors and subcontractors.
Supporting the administration and maintenance of HSEQ documentation and records.
Assisting with toolbox talks, safety briefings and workforce engagement activities.
Monitoring compliance with PPE requirements, site rules and permit-to-work systems.
Supporting the HSEQ Manager in preparing reports, audits and client-facing documentation.
Building effective relationships with the local client team and other stakeholders to support safe project delivery.
Developing your professional knowledge and maintaining Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Keeping up to date with health and safety legislation, industry best practice and professional development activities.

About you

Essential

Knowledge of current HSE legislation.
NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Good written and numerical skills.
Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
A proactive and positive approach to learning.
Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

Previous experience within construction, demolition, remediation, rail, asbestos or a similar operational environment.
SC clearance.
Internal Auditor qualification (ISO 9001/45001).
Knowledge of ISO management systems.
Additional health, safety or environmental qualifications.
