Full job description

St John’s Nursing Home is looking for Activities Coordinator on a full time basis to join the team.

As an Activities Coordinator, you will, in conjunction with the Registered Manager, plan a varied programme of activity around the needs of your resident group. You will explore the most appropriate methods and resources for meeting activity needs including group events, individual sessions, involving internal and external resources and community-based resources.

This position also involves designing, implementing, and overseeing engaging activities that promote social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and physical well-being among the residents, particularly those living with dementia. The Activities person will work closely with staff, residents, and their families to ensure a vibrant and supportive environment.

Duties

Develop and implement a comprehensive activities programme tailored to the interests and abilities of residents.
Coordinate daily activities that encourage participation from all residents, fostering a sense of community.
Assess the needs and preferences of residents to create personalised activity plans.
Collaborate with care staff to ensure activities are aligned with individual care plans.
Organise special events, outings, and celebrations that enhance social engagement.
Maintain accurate records of resident participation and feedback on activities.
Train and supervise volunteers or junior staff involved in activity planning and execution.
Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to promote upcoming activities and gather input for future planning.
Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations.

Skills

Strong communication skills to effectively engage with residents, families, and team members.
Experience or knowledge in senior care settings such as care homes or nursing homes is highly desirable.
Understanding of dementia care principles to create appropriate activities for residents with cognitive impairments.
Ability to organise events that cater to diverse interests while promoting inclusivity among all residents.
Creative thinking to develop innovative programmes that stimulate both physical and mental activity.
Empathy and patience when working with seniors to foster a supportive atmosphere.
Strong organisational skills to manage multiple activities simultaneously while ensuring high-quality experiences for residents.
