Full job description

Job Overview:

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Maintenance Assistant to join our care home team. This role is essential in ensuring that our residents live in a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment. You will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of maintenance tasks, supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the home.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, basic electrical work, painting, and general upkeep
Ensure all equipment, fixtures, and facilities are safe and in good working order
Conduct regular health and safety checks and report any issues promptly
Maintain outdoor areas, including gardens, pathways, and car parks
Respond quickly to maintenance requests from staff and residents
Assist with room preparation and refurbishment when needed
Liaise with external contractors and service providers as required
Keep accurate records of maintenance work and compliance checks

Requirements:

Previous experience in a maintenance or handyman role
Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations
Practical skills across multiple trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, decorating)
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Good communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner
Understanding of working within a care environment (desirable but not essential)
