THE OPPORTUNITY
Sky Scrapers is a professional roof cleaning and exterior property maintenance company specialising in traditional, non-abrasive roof cleaning.
As our workload continues to grow, we’re looking to build a small team of reliable Roofer’s Mates and Construction Labourers who can work with us on a flexible, job-to-job basis.
This could suit an experienced labourer, roofer’s mate, young roofer or someone from another construction trade who enjoys practical outdoor work.
You don’t need to be a qualified roofer.
If you’ve got the right attitude, you’re reliable, comfortable working at height and know your way around a building site, we can teach you our roof-cleaning process.
£130–£160 PER DAY
Your rate will depend on your experience, ability, driving licence and what you can bring to the team.
There is potential for regular ongoing work for people who prove themselves reliable.
We’re particularly interested in finding people we can call on regularly rather than constantly using different labourers.
Do a good job, turn up when you say you will and you’ll be offered more work.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
You’ll work alongside the Sky Scrapers team carrying out professional roof cleaning and associated maintenance on residential properties.
A typical job can include:
- Setting up and preparing the property for work
- Working safely from ladders, towers and other appropriate access equipment
- Manually scraping moss from roof tiles
- Removing moss and organic growth using hand tools
- Clearing gutters and checking downpipes
- Blowing down roofs and clearing loose debris
- Identifying cracked, slipped or damaged roof tiles
- Assisting with replacing damaged tiles
- Assisting experienced team members with minor roof maintenance
- Preparing roofs for softwash and biocide treatments
- Protecting windows, patios, gardens and surrounding property
- Ground work and keeping the site organised
- Thoroughly cleaning the property at the end of each job
- Loading/unloading equipment and helping with daily setup and pack-down
Attention to detail is extremely important.
We work on customers’ homes — often large, high-value properties — so we expect every job to be left exceptionally clean and tidy.

If you agree to work, we need you to turn up. Our customers have booked us and the rest of the team is relying on you.
✓ Comfortable working at height
This is roof work. You must be confident at height while still having a sensible attitude towards safety.
✓ Physically fit
Roof cleaning is physical work. You’ll be climbing, scraping, carrying equipment and working outdoors for much of the day.
✓ Hard-working
We’re looking for people who get stuck in rather than needing to be constantly supervised.
✓ Professional around customers
You’ll be representing Sky Scrapers while working at people’s homes.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE
- Full UK driving licence
- Previous roofing experience
- Roofer’s mate experience
- Construction labouring experience
- Experience working at height
- CSCS card
- Experience using ladders/access equipment
- Basic knowledge of roof tiles and roofing defects
- Ability to use hand and power tools confidently
Having several of these will put you towards the higher end of our £130–£160 daily rate.

Traditional hand roof cleaning
We don’t simply blast roofs with pressure washers. Our approach is methodical, controlled and designed to protect the roof.
Roof inspection
You’ll learn how to spot common defects, damaged tiles and potential maintenance issues while we’re cleaning.
Professional softwashing & biocide treatments
You’ll gain experience in the processes used to professionally treat roofs following mechanical moss removal.
Customer service
You’ll work on everything from normal family homes through to substantial residential properties, where professionalism and attention to detail matter.
FLEXIBLE WORK
This isn’t necessarily a Monday-to-Friday position.
We’re initially looking for people who are happy working with us on a:
DAY-TO-DAY / JOB-TO-JOB BASIS
Some weeks may have several days available; other periods may be quieter.
This makes the role particularly suitable for:
- Self-employed construction workers
- Roofers or roofer’s mates with spare days
- Flexible labourers
- People between larger projects
- Tradespeople looking for additional income

WHERE YOU’LL WORK
Our work is primarily throughout:
Bedfordshire Hertfordshire Buckinghamshire Northamptonshire Cambridgeshire
We occasionally travel further for larger or specialist projects.
Transport arrangements will depend on the particular job, although having your own transport and a full UK driving licence is a major advantage.
