Gelato Production & Coffee Shop Manager

Overview
We’re a family-run artisan gelato and coffee business based in central Derby, and we’re looking for an experienced, reliable and hands-on Gelato Production & Coffee Shop Manager to join our team.

At Nico’s, we care about doing things properly: freshly made artisan gelato, excellent coffee, high standards of presentation and genuinely friendly customer service.

This is a varied role for someone who is confident with coffee, enjoys taking responsibility, and wants to become a key part of a growing independent business.

You’ll take the lead on coffee quality and staff training, support the day-to-day running of the business, and be trained to produce our artisan gelato independently.

Previous gelato-making experience is not required — we’ll teach you our recipes, processes and production standards.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Lead coffee quality, including espresso preparation, grinder adjustment and milk texturing
Train and coach team members in coffee preparation
Learn to produce our artisan gelato independently and maintain consistent quality
Plan production, stock and deliveries
Support and supervise the team and organise daily tasks
Open and close our locations and maintain food-safety, cleaning and presentation standards
Deliver excellent customer service and take ownership when operational issues arise

Skills

We’re looking for someone with:

Strong café, speciality coffee or similar hospitality experience
Good knowledge of espresso preparation, grinders and milk texturing
The confidence to train and support other team members
The ability to work independently and take responsibility
Strong organisation, attention to detail and high standards
A calm, practical and customer-focused approach
Flexibility to work weekends and across different areas of the business
A genuine interest in learning artisan gelato production

Experience supervising or training a team is highly desirable.

Previous gelato-making experience is not essential.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £15.00-£16.00 per hour
