Working Pattern: 36 Hours per week

Location: Fife House, Glenrothes

Job Details

We provide an essential public health service to the people and environment of Fife. Working within the Environmental Health (Public Protection) Team, you will be required to work on your own and with other team members, to carry out the duties and functions of the team. You will also work with and refer to a range of other Council services and partner organisations.

The main roles of the post will be to carry out the operational and administrative duties within the remit of Environmental Health as allocated to you, including:

the investigation and enforcement of alleged contraventions of nuisance legislation

the inspection of businesses and/or properties in line with statutory requirements for animal licensing and welfare.

Providing an expert response to various consultations from the likes of - Planning, SEPA, Scottish Government, etc…

Organising funerals under the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016

Working out with normal office hours is an essential part of the service

Travel expenses will be paid – we pay 45 pence per mile to staff using their own car. Pool cars and Team trucks are also available.

The Person

If you enjoy problem solving and making a difference, this may be the job for you. You should have experience of Environmental Health work and dealing with difficult customers.

Preparing reports, procedures and advice are a critical part of the job, as is the extensive use of IT. You should also have experience of meeting deadlines and targets.

You should have High National Diploma (HND) in a relevant subject or equivalent, as a minimum.

As much of Fife is rural in nature, a driving licence is required.

Applications from individuals due to sit their REHIS Professional Examinations in 2026 / 2027 or those with an interest in obtaining an Environmental Health Officer qualification are welcome.
