About us

We have the capability to deliver major surfacing and public realm infrastructure projects. Our specialist in-house traffic management division provides expert advice and support across the industry, whilst assisting with our own, in-house contracts.

About the role

VolkerHighways is seeking a motivated Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. Reporting to a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will support the successful commercial delivery of highway and infrastructure projects while developing your technical and professional skills.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone currently studying towards a construction-related qualification and looking to build a career in quantity surveying within a leading infrastructure business.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Support:

Assist with subcontract procurement and tender evaluations.
Support the preparation of subcontract documentation and payment applications.
Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
Assist with monthly reporting, cost tracking and forecasting.
Support the preparation of client valuations and cash flow forecasts.
Monitor project risks and escalate issues where appropriate.

Project Delivery:

Support the commercial delivery of highway and infrastructure projects.
Assist with measurement, reporting and subcontractor account management.
Develop knowledge of contracts, costs and project performance.

Procurement & Supply Chain:

Assist with procurement activities and subcontractor engagement.
Support supplier and subcontractor management throughout project delivery.

About you

Essential:

Currently undertaking, or planning to undertake, a degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Studies or a related discipline.
Strong numerical and analytical skills.
Good communication and organisational abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Eagerness to develop a career in Quantity Surveying.

Desirable:

Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
Previous placement, internship or work experience within a construction or civil engineering environment.
Working towards membership of RICS, CIOB or ICES.
