Based within Wellington Shire Council's Governance team, this leadership role provides the opportunity to coordinate and support the delivery of a diverse range of regulatory services that help protect community safety, amenity and wellbeing across the municipality.

Are you an experienced regulatory professional with a passion for leading teams and delivering high-quality community outcomes? We are seeking a Team Leader Local Laws to coordinate the day-to-day delivery of Local Laws services, provide leadership and support to Local Laws Officers and School Crossing Supervisors, and ensure compliance activities are delivered safely, consistently and in accordance with relevant legislation and Council requirements.

In this role, you will:

Lead and support Local Laws Officers and School Crossing Supervisors in delivering effective regulatory services.
Coordinate local laws, animal management, parking, livestock, litter and school crossing services across the municipality.
Allocate workloads, provide operational guidance and monitor service delivery outcomes.
Support investigations, evidence gathering and enforcement activities in line with legislative requirements.
Build strong relationships with schools, government agencies, emergency services and community stakeholders.
Identify service improvement opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives across the team.

About you:

You have experience leading teams in a regulatory, compliance, animal management or local government environment
You have strong knowledge and practical experience interpreting and applying legislation and regulatory frameworks.
You are a confident leader who can coach, mentor and support staff while maintaining high service standards.
You have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills and can effectively manage challenging situations.
You are highly organised, able to balance competing priorities and make sound decisions in complex environments.
You hold a relevant qualification or have extensive experience in regulatory services, local government, animal management or a related field.

Key Selection Criteria:

Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating regulatory or compliance services, including the supervision, support and development of operational staff.
Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, undertake investigations, assess evidence and support appropriate enforcement actions
Highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse groups
Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate workloads while maintaining service standards and responding to operational demands
Relevant qualifications in Local Government, Regulatory Services, Animal Management or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
