Job Title: Product Engineer II

Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:00am - 4:00pm (37.5 hours per week)
Rate of Pay: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum (DOE), plus benefits

As a proactive and versatile Product Engineer II, you will play a key role in guiding products through the engineering and manufacturing phases, ensuring all preparations are complete for efficient assembly within our production areas. You will thrive on solving complex challenges and driving innovation, whilst playing a key part in our New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustainment programs. You will apply Lean principles, 5S & FOD methodologies to optimise processes and deliver operational excellence. With a hands-on, proactive approach, you’ll close technical gaps, streamline workflows, and introduce innovative solutions to improve manufacturing & testing efficiency. You will liaise with customers, internally and externally with a focus on safety, quality, delivery, cost & lean. Collaboration is at the heart of this role—you’ll work across teams and manage multiple projects to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- You will provide engineering solutions for new products and improvements to on-going projects across the company; you will have sound experience of the full DfMA process.
- Be part of the team for deployment into production of new products, leading the design through stage gates in the NPI process.
- You will be a point of contact with customers, managing change proposals (flow down) as per the QMS & NPI process.
- Manage projects, both sustainment & NPI possibly from inception through to completion.
- Management of technical compliance, verification & validation acceptance, technical risk reduction mitigation and any pertinent documents required for new and existing projects.
- Deliver practical engineering solutions for new products and improvements, participate in peer reviews to ensure DfMA and DFMEA/PFMEA goals are met.
- Work in production to identify and alleviate potential bottlenecks in the products progress, liaising with all necessary departments’ i.e. engineering, sales, purchasing etc
- Design & create detail drawings of component parts for assembly, tooling, jigs/fixtures using our 3D & 2D CAD system.
- Create and develop project inputs for FAT testing, verification, qualification activities.
- Create and maintain bill of materials (BoM) for designs and tooling.
- Develop and maintain test leads/harnessing, test equipment to support new build and sustainment of existing production processes. Maintain records for test harnessing (ATE and manual) created for projects.
- Responsible for the Survey and Repair, SCARs, 8D process for Customer Returns, supporting the quality assurance & sales team with root causes of product issues.
- Work with the Snr Product Engineer with aspects of material disposition, including scrap management, RMA’s and concession management to support dept KPI’s.
- Produce and maintain accurate manufacturing routings/work instructions to allow efficient shop floor planning.
- Make recommendations regarding new plant/equipment and factory layout for new and existing projects, proposals for cost savings and productivity improvements, working with the Engineering Manager with implementation.
- Be a key member at daily GEMBA walks, coordinate actions required to support SQDCL & PIO’s.

Qualifications & Competencies:
- Degree or HND in relevant subjects which could include Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or Similar with a minimum 5 years work experience in a hands-on technical role.
- Ambitious character traits with a “can do” attitude and drive to embrace and promote the company culture, values, goals & expectations.
- Sound knowledge of 2D/3D CAD, DfMA, technical drawings, and wiring schematics.
- Good experience with ERP, creating work instructions, BOM administration, reject/rework dispositioning.
- Good knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and modern production methods.
- Good Knowledge of machining processes, fixture/jig design, and test harness development.
- Sound Knowledge of mechanical/electrical fault finding, environmental & climatic testing.
- Good Knowledge of torque tools, crimping tools, soldering, cable preparation and cable harnessing.
- Experience or knowledge of data protocols - Ethernet, CANBUS, RS422 etc.
- Must have the ability to use test equipment such as ATE’s, milliohm meters, Hi Pot testers, insulation meters
- Ability to use oscilloscopes & VNAs desirable.
- Programming test or automation equipment desirable.
Physical Demands & Locations:
- Predominately an office/manufacturing environment however, there shall be the physical demands of working within cells with hardware using test equipment/DUT set-ups within test facilities and shop floor areas. Whilst performing the physical duties of this role, the jobholder shall be required to be active through standing, walking, bending, carrying, and the use of hand tools/test equipment in accordance with the site Manual Handling Policy and the site Health & Safety Policy.
- From time to time, it may be necessary for the jobholder to undertake reasonable tasks on behalf of the company, which would not normally be regarded as part of the role. The jobholder shall carry these out to the best of their ability. To undertake ad hoc and other technical duties when requested by their departmental manager or other Senior Management team members.
- Work duties will require operating within various areas of the office & factory including but not limited to the assembly/test area, machine area, stores, and external test facilities as required.
- The position may require travel both in the UK and possibly overseas. The jobholder shall hold a full UK driving licence and Passport.
- Travel to accredited test facilities in the UK and possibly overseas or to support customer integration or issues encountered.
