Animal Care Placement / Part-Time Kennel Assistant
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic college student who is interested in gaining practical experience working with dogs, alongside their studies.
We are a small, friendly greyhound racing kennel and are looking for someone who would be interested in completing one placement day per week with us. There may also be opportunities for additional paid evening and weekend shifts for the right person, providing useful experience alongside their college course.
The placement would provide hands-on experience in the daily care and welfare of racing greyhounds, including:
- Feeding, watering and exercising dogs according to their individual needs
- Cleaning and maintaining kennel areas
- Monitoring the health and behaviour of dogs and reporting any concerns
- Grooming and general maintenance
- Administering medication or treatments as directed
- Maintaining high standards of animal welfare
- Assisting with the day-to-day running of a professional racing kennel
- Potential opportunities to gain experience at the racetrack
Previous experience working with dogs is advantageous but not essential. We are particularly interested in someone who is passionate about animal care, willing to learn and able to work responsibly.
A driving licence would be advantageous, but is not essential provided you are able to reliably travel to the kennels.
For any additional paid shifts, evening and weekend availability would be particularly useful. Example shifts can include:
- 8:30am–11:30am
- 11:30am–3:00pm
- 6:30pm–8:30pm
Additional hours may also be available during staff holidays and busy periods.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking
- Passionate about dogs and animal welfare
- Comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions
- Able to work independently as well as as part of a small team
- Willing to learn and follow instructions
- Comfortable with the physical nature of kennel work
- Ideally studying an animal care, veterinary or related course
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain genuine practical experience within a professional working kennel environment, while potentially earning additional money through paid shifts alongside their placement.
If you are interested, please send us your CV and/or a brief description of your course, previous animal experience and the type of placement you are looking for.
