Full job description

Job Summary

We are on the lookout for an experienced Senior Chef De Partie making the move to Sous, or current Sous Chef to join our pub community at The Barley Mow where we do things a bit differently!

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to make their mark, along with the Head Chef, creating spectacular seasonal dishes, with full autonomy and creativity.

We are a successful pub growing and building for the future with an amazing front and back of house team. Not only do we offer individualism and progression opportunities, but we also offer the chance to become part of our new kitchen build for next year; our 5-star reputation will be reflected in a state of the art, built-to-fit kitchen, where comfortability will be key.

Due to the position being offered, a high calibre chef, from preferably a farm-to-fork/fine dining background would be most advantageous.

Working hours will be approximately 40-50 per week, with split shifts and one straight, but early finishes. Expect to have lunch service ended at 2:30, and dinner service by 8:30. Offering a much-needed work/life balance! (Unheard of, right?!). Your usual days off will be Mondays and Wednesdays, with the odd evening off where applicable!

Candidates will also be subject to a trades test upon a successful interview process, so we can see what you love to cook!

Salary open to negotiation.

Our Pub

The Barley Mow in The Sands is a beautiful pub and has been in the heart of our village since 1860. It was purchased by over 100 village locals and opened in September 2024.

The pub has been very successful since reopening. Our unique proposition is that of a traditional village pub, serving locals and also as a destination, by providing top quality food and drink in a cosy environment. It has 44 covers internally, and a lovely garden where visitors regular eat in good weather.

Responsibilities

Daily food production activities, ensuring consistency, quality, and presentation standards are met.
Oversee food preparation and cooking processes, maintaining efficiency and adherence to food safety regulations.
Coordinate with front-of-house teams to deliver exceptional hospitality experiences for guests.
Implement and monitor food safety protocols to ensure compliance with health standards and regulations.
Develop innovative menu ideas that reflect current culinary trends while respecting brand standards.
Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and control costs to optimize kitchen operations.

Experience

Extensive culinary experience with strong skills in food preparation and cooking techniques.
Solid understanding of kitchen operations, including food safety practices and sanitation standards.
Background in hospitality environments with excellent customer service skills.
Prior restaurant experience with serving guests and ensuring memorable dining experiences is highly desirable.
Own accommodation and transport essential.

Pay: £28,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
