Working alongside the Head of Group Tax (HoT), raising the profile of tax, being an effective business partner to add commercial value and ensuring on-going tax compliance for the worldwide group.
Responsible for day-to-day management and progress of UK tax compliance, driving processes, keeping HoT updated, providing support to HoT and working with other Aspen team members. Building effective relationships with internal stakeholders and advisors, and promoting good business partnering with wider business. Providing practical, value add input on tax matters.
Overall
- Assist with annual review of Tax Strategy, Tax Policy, and any other tax governance documentation
- Preparation and maintaining tax framework, including tax risk matrix
- Review Accounting System tax controls
- Prepping tax accounting/disclosures for accounting, including group reporting obligations
- Assisting with Tax Planning and taking ownership of compliance obligations, considering the future strategy of the business, group policy and local regulations
- Support the Head of Tax in determining tax efficient structures and tax opportunities, and practical solutions for existing and new business activities
- Maintain up to date tax knowledge, changes in/new legislation, Spring and Autumn Statements - consideration of how this is shared with group personnel, appropriate implementation
- Be an initial point of contact for business related tax advice, working towards effective business partnering
- Be a key contact with HMRC, bridging between the business and Inspectors where appropriate, ensure prompt responses to all HMRC enquiries/correspondence
- Be responsible for tracking overseas entity tax compliance status, liaising with local teams and advisors to provide comfort of overall tax filing compliance and oversight of tax authority enquiries
Compliance
Corporate tax
- Ensure annual corporate tax returns are prepared on a timely basis, working with external advisors, ensuring appropriate information is provided on a timely basis
- Includes all aspects of information gathering, including CFC review (prepared internally)
- RDEC claim – manage day to day process - work with professional advisers, collate and deliver key data and information required (actual spend figures, project information etc) to support the logic for claim. Ensure this is ready alongside CT return filing
- CIR – manage day to day process - work with professional advisers, provide key information requested on a timely basis. Understand CIR for high-level inclusion in quarterly instalment payment calculations
- Take ownership of QIP calculations, ensuring timely payment
- Review finance team monthly CT provision calculations
- SAO – whilst not application at this time, work towards the creation of appropriate processes to be SAO ready, to be able to manage day to day process for notifications and certifications
- Assisting with Transfer Pricing documentation and processes.
- Oversee oversea entity direct tax return processes, tracking progress, liaising with external advisors and collating key documents for central files
VAT
- Support VAT return processing and any necessary process/control improvements.
- Perform reviews of MTD process, to ensure compliance, including reviews of quarterly Group VAT returns
- Provide ad hoc assistance with overs VAT return queries, as and when they arise
Customs
- Provide ad hoc support with queries, as and when they arise
Employee taxes
- Work with HR/payroll to ensure compliance, including assist with review of employee taxes compliance and documenting processes
- Provide ad hoc support with queries
Internal Risk and Control
- Maintain Tax Risk register with supporting processes, controls and documentation
- Review tax related internal processes from other functions for risk and completeness, with a view to mitigation of risk improvements
- Mapping of tax disciplines within the organisation and responsibilities
- Review other function Process documents to ensure appropriate tax controls are contained and maintained
- Generate internal control measures for checking performance of other functions for tax compliance and risk management
- Map out tax touch points within the business and generate network of responsibilities and control activities
- Ensure organisation functions are aware and are engaging with the tax function
Group reporting
- Oversight and management of day to day year end and any interim group reporting tax obligations, including preparing tax calculations as required
- Preparation of stats tax notes
Advisory
- Support HoT on other group related matters, assisting with or owning ad hoc advisory queries and projects, or aspects of larger projects as and when necessary
- Assist in preparation of advisory notes for finance team members, or the wider business
Required attributes
- Accounting (ACA) or Tax (CTA) qualified, or equivalent
- Experience of multiple taxes (CT, VAT, PAYE etc)
- In-house tax experience, including experience of ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) useful
- Self starter, and able to take ownership
- Good relationship building skills, experience of business partnering
- Attention to detail
Pay: Up to £90,000.00 per year
