Full job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen at our Electro-Motive Diesel Depot in Longport for an experienced Locomotive Workshop Team Leader. Electro-Motive Diesel Limited is a subsidiary of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, specialized in manufacturing, maintaining and overhauling diesel-electric locomotives across the world. As a loco workshop team leader, you will be instrumental in the successful supervision of the team to ensure all production deadlines are met to relevant standards.

This role would be ideal for a candidate with a track record of working with Diesel engineering technology looking to hone their managerial skills and enhance their career opportunities whilst we continue to grow. You will join a friendly and supportive team of dedicated individuals and approachable managers who care about every team member and provide Individual self-development through continuous training.

The role:

· Coach, mentor and lead a team, encouraging a high level of performance in self and others, undertaking performance management where needed

· Recruit & train all personnel including contractors

Participate in the company appraisal process and employee relations meetings.

· Plan and distribute workload in the team to ensure deadlines are met

· Resource planning – annual leave, training, sickness absence

· Drive a culture of continuous improvement

· Provide technical expertise on all welding matters as required in line with daily activities as well as specific projects

· Take ownership of workshop housekeeping & daily 5S tasks, challenging the team where standards fall below expected levels

· Develop the workshop records and procedures in line with the British Standard.

· Carry out inspections, spot checks, final inspections to ensure standards are maintained

· Provide quality shift handover information to ensure minimal disruption

· Work closely with the Production and Depot Managers to ensure maximum operational effectiveness and minimum downtime for area of responsibility

Maintain at all times high levels of professionalism and work ethics

Strong work ethics, a thorough and pro-active approach to task completion and the ability to manage and motivate a team are key to be successful in the role. You will need to demonstrate excellent inter-personal skills and an appetite to learn new skills and progress the work environment forward.

Leadership experience working in a Heavy Maintenance facility
Clear leadership skills

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Strong track record of being a team player & encouraging a high level of performance in self and others

· IOSH Managing safely or equivalent would be a plus
