Role Overview
At Prospect Coaches (West) Ltd, we operate one of the UK's fastest growing coach operations on behalf of FlixBus, delivering safe, reliable and professional services across the United Kingdom.
As our Birmingham operation continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Fleet Support Engineer / PSV Technician to join our Engineering Team.
Working closely with the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining fleet reliability, supporting operational availability and ensuring our vehicles remain compliant, safe and presented to the highest standard.
This is a hands-on role within a growing business, offering the opportunity to make a real contribution to one of the UK's fastest growing coach operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
· Carry out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
· Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and vehicle system defects.
· Complete repairs in accordance with DVSA, manufacturer and company standards.
· Prepare vehicles for MOT, annual testing and compliance inspections.
· Support roadside assistance and vehicle recovery when required.
· Assist with defect rectification to minimise vehicle downtime.
Fleet Availability
· Support the Engineering Manager in maximising fleet availability.
· Prioritise repairs to ensure vehicles are available for service.
· Work closely with Operations to ensure service requirements are met.
· Monitor and action vehicle defects reported through company systems.
Driver & Operational Support
· Provide practical engineering support to drivers and operational teams.
· Assist in developing driver awareness around vehicle care and defect reporting.
· Support the delivery of basic vehicle familiarisation and first-line maintenance training where appropriate.
Workshop Standards
· Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.
· Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Health & Safety requirements.
· Accurately complete maintenance records, inspection reports and compliance documentation.
· Assist with stock control, parts management and workshop organisation.
General Duties
· Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Engineering Manager, General Manager or Managing Director.
· Act as a professional ambassador for Prospect Coaches (West) Ltd and FlixBus at all times.
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
ü Full Category D PSV Licence.
ü Previous experience working on buses, coaches, HGVs or commercial vehicles.
ü Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
ü Good understanding of the DVSA Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
ü Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
ü Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
ü Excellent communication and organisational skills.
ü Flexible approach to working hours in support of a 24/7 operation.
Desirable
ü IRTEC Accreditation.
ü Experience working within a PSV or coach operation.
ü Experience working with Irizar, Scania, Mercedes-Benz or DAF vehicles.
ü Electrical diagnostic and CAN Bus system experience.
ü Experience using fleet maintenance and workshop management systems.
ü Knowledge of manufacturer warranty processes.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £15.00-£20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
