About us

The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases is a hub for clinical and research excellence across the spectrum of spinal cord and neuromuscular diseases. Our group of world-leading clinical, genetic and basic science researchers focus their work on understanding the causes and biological mechanisms leading to neuromuscular disease and translating this knowledge into developing novel therapeutic solutions that is of direct benefit to neurological disorders.

About the role

We’re recruiting an experienced administrator to work closely with the Departmental Administrator to support departmental operations and provide a full and extensive range of senior-level administration. This will include providing high quality and timely administrative support to the DA, Principal Investigators, and departmental staff and students, working alongside the DA to support and take the lead on some day-to-day operational duties in the Department.

Specialising in administering financial, HR, student and general administrative activities, you will ensure effective procedures are adopted for dealing with all aspects including processing financial transactions, procurement and grant applications. You will also have the opportunity to lead a number of ad hoc projects on behalf of the Head of Research Department and/or DA, and will work closely with the other team members in the Department, ensuring cross cover and, together, acting as the first port of call for any enquiries.

The post is available from 12 October 2026 on a permanent/open-ended basis.

This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% of time on site.

About you

You’ll have substantial experience of delivering an efficient administrative support function within a large, complex organisation, including experience of the operational delivery of research grants, and of designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient management information systems and procedures. A proactive approach to effective problem-solving and excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills are also essential to this role.

This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
